Job Purpose
Under close supervision, operates a variety of trucks and light construction equipment in the maintenance of City streets and related infrastructure. Work involves driving trucks and operating equipment, performing manual tasks, maintaining equipment and vehicles and performing related work as assigned. Reports to the Streets Supervisor.
Tasks
โ€ข Operates trucks to haul and move materials.
โ€ข Learns and operates a variety of light construction or related equipment as required, which may include a vactor truck, back hoe, bobcat, asphalt roller, mowers, etc., in the maintenance of City streets, sidewalks, storm sewers and other City-owned public services.
โ€ข Uses equipment for various tasks, which may include excavating earth, leveling and grading roads, filling surfaces, stabilizing soil, scraping roads/removing snow, digging and backfilling trenches, installing drainage pipes, cleaning and repairing drainage structures, installing and repairing sidewalks and curbs, and performing other construction and maintenance operations.
โ€ข Provides traffic control during street paving and other maintenance work.
โ€ข Utilizes various types of small equipment and hand and power tools in the performance of duties, which may include a transit, jack hammer, tamper, grease gun, mechanic's tools, power and hand tools, painting equipment and supplies, etc.
โ€ข Loads equipment and materials onto/off of trucks and trailers.
โ€ข Performs carpentry or masonry projects as assigned.
โ€ข Paints markings on roads, curbs and sidewalks.
โ€ข Installs and maintains street signs.
โ€ข Performs manual labor duties in general clean-up projects, or other routine job assignments.
โ€ข Restores work sites at the completion of maintenance and repairs.
โ€ข Cleans, performs preventive maintenance and minor adjustments to equipment and tools as necessary to maintain safe operating condition.
โ€ข Performs duties in accordance with all department policies, procedures, and standards of safety.
โ€ข Prepares and submits daily work reports.
โ€ข Receives and reviews work orders, instructions, schedules.
โ€ข Refers to policy and procedure manuals, operator manuals, City code book.
โ€ข Interacts and communicates with the immediate supervisor, co-workers, contractors and the general public.
โ€ข Attends meetings and training as necessary to enhance job knowledge and skills.
