Job description

As a Overnight Lift Operator, you will use a piece of equipment called a Lift to move products within the warehouse. It is designed to work in narrow aisles, allowing operators to reach high shelves while maintaining stability. These lifts are ideal for storing and retrieving goods from elevated storage spaces, offering enhanced maneuverability compared to traditional forklifts. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring products are readily available for various teams within the warehouse.

POSITION PURPOSE:
Responsible for moving product. A forklift operator at United Natural Foods is required to have a strong understanding of his lift, the loads he/she is carrying, productivity measures and safety procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:
  • Reports to the shipping office at the beginning of each shift for the daily assignment, vehicle inspection sheet and replenishment discrepancies sheet.
  • Inspects assigned lift and completes vehicle inspection sheet.
  • Replenishes pick slots using the view request screen. If no requests exist, uses the manual replenish screen to fill empty or almost empty slots.
  • Performs knockdowns for selectors when needed; cuts and removes shrink wrap from all knockdowns.
  • Maintains correct counts and logs any discrepancies in inventory.
  • Verifies that the correct product is being put in the appropriate pick location.
  • Removes all empty pallets from pick locations and aisles. Separates the good, bad, and blue pallets and neatly stages in pallet staging area.
  • Parks and recharges lift in its appropriate spot at the end of the shift.
  • Perform duties in accordance with Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) and Safe Quality Food (SQF) policies and procedures, as appropriate for location

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:
  • Understanding of Safety guidelines and operates the lift in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable Bakco functions and RF systems.
  • Must have Stand Up, Reach Truck experience.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • Warehouse/Operations preferred but not required
  • System implementation experience is preferred.
  • Good judgment is required for this position as there may be times when direct supervision may not be immediately available.

SKILLS/ABILITIES:
  • Have an understanding of procedures in other areas of the warehouse for a more global understanding of all processes.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two step instructions and to deal with ordinary, standardized situations.
  • Ability to perform very basic math skills including adding; subtracting, multiplying, and dividing two digit
    numbers; the four basic arithmetic operations with money; and operations with units such as inch, foot, yard; ounce, and pound.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Onsite Role:
This position requires the associate to perform all duties at our Howell UNFI location.
Physical Environment/Demands:
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and to stand, walk, bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently.
  • Exposed to temperatures ranging from -20 degrees below zero to 35 degrees Fahrenheit in Perishable Operation and 37 degrees to 90 degrees Fahrenheit in Grocery Operation.
  • Ability to do repetitious arm, wrist, and hand movements required for maintenance and service procedures.
  • Must be able to work with hands and arms overhead, and to work in or under the equipment.
  • Requires manual dexterity, overall coordination, and good balance to work both at ground level and in high places to perform job duties.
  • Ability to operate work-related equipment.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
