About You and this Role

Are you a backend-focused engineer who understands the intricacies of modern frontend architecture and web tooling? You will design, build, and optimize backend frameworks, build tools, and delivery pipelines that power Liferay’s frontend ecosystem, including infrastructure for data set rendering, content editing, custom client extensions, caching, performance and security. You bring strong server-side engineering practices while maintaining a deep understanding of how client-side applications consume services, package assets, and render user interfaces. You effectively work as a full-stack developer with stronger backend skills.

If you enjoy solving technical problems and building scalable software that impacts enterprise users globally, this is the position for you.

Key Objectives

  • Work in a long-term software product. Building strong foundations, without being constrained by frequent deadlines, delivering the best possible solution and iterating then.

  • Work in an open source distributed company with strong ethical values, sharp vision, in an international environment.

  • Design and implement new features and frameworks for the Liferay Platform and other Liferay products. Your software will be used by thousands of developers and end users around the world.

  • Write high quality and maintainable code. Keeping technical debt under control.

  • Participate in peer review processes, growing along with your teammates. Suggest improvements and be humble enough to accept suggestions. Everyone learns from everyone, no matter how brilliant you are.

  • Use Git and GitHub on a daily basis: branches, merges, rebases, pull-requests, etc.

  • Work closely with UX Designers and Product Managers to implement the shared vision.

Required Qualifications

  • +3 years of experience with software engineering best practices: version control, unit testing, etc.

  • Degree in Computer Science, similar technical field of study, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Understand and share the values of agile development.

  • Write high quality code using Java, Javascript (React), Freemarker, SQL

  • Proficient with Git (or any other DVCS) and related branching patterns: git-flow, pull-requests, rebases, etc.

  • Experience writing enterprise-level code in one or more programming languages.

  • You have strong learning skills; if you don’t know something, you’re willing (and capable) of learning it.

  • Fully comfortable working in English and Spanish, both written and spoken. Some of your teammates will be in the Americas, Asia or Europe.

  • Good communication skills. You can clearly explain complex technical subjects to other people.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working on a DXP platform or Liferay Portal 7.0+

  • Understand and share the values of agile development.

  • Experience with web architecture and standards (HTTP, CSP, web caching, web components, HTML5, Servlets, Browser APIs)

  • Knowledge of Java, Javascript/Node, Typescript and React

  • Worked on backend-frontend integration

  • It's a big plus if you're a contributor to open source, hackathons, meetups or whatever-related to coding.
