Job description

Department: Washington City Community Center Division: Aquatics

Wage: $16.00 - $21.00 hourly

GENERAL PURPOSE

Aquatic Supervisor assists the Aquatic Manager in providing quality aquatic programming, training lifeguards and instructors, and overseeing rockwall and concessions in line with the vision (Improving Life through Recreation) and Values (Create Opportunity, Discover Passion, Seek Balance, and Embrace Unity) of the Washington City Community Center

Aquatic Supervisor performs first-line supervision over all lifeguards and advanced poolside duties to assure safe use of aquatic facilities. Aquatic Supervisor monitors water activities to prevent accidents or injury to patrons and ensure a positive recreation experience. Aquatic Supervisor assumes responsibility for pool operations, proactively enforces pool and facility rules, employs superior customer service, continuously trains lifeguards, and acts in a leadership role in the absence of the Aquatics Coordinator.

Rock Wall Supervisor performs a variety of rock wall specific duties as needed to safely instruct, belay, and supervise use of the community center rock wall.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Aquatic Supervisor works under the specific supervision of the Aquatics Coordinator and general direction of the Aquatic Manager.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Aquatic Supervisor provides immediate supervision to Lifeguards, Head Lifeguards, Concessions Staff, and Rockwall Staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Aquatic Supervisors must be available to work a rotating schedule that may include day, night, and weekend shifts. Multiple Aquatic Supervisors will share a portion of the following responsibilities as assigned by the Aquatic Coordinator. Aquatic Supervisors will be assigned 1 or more areas of responsibility.


  1. Performs as the head of all aquatic staff.
  2. Ensures compliance to policies and procedures by all aquatic staff.
  3. Enforces rules, disciplines or ejects patrons for rule infractions.
  4. Ensure all program fees are paid.
  5. Ensures shifts are properly staffed.
  6. Monitors performance to make recommendations to the Aquatics Coordinator affecting employment status such as advancement, discipline and discharge.
  7. Aids in all facility emergencies.
  8. Directs and performs preventative maintenance and custodial duties.
  9. Oversees set-up, take-down, and proper use of equipment for swim meets, water polo games, rentals.
  10. Teaches lifeguard and First Aid/CPR/AED Courses.
  11. Conducts staff in-service trainings
  12. Heps conduct new staff orientations and maintains staff files.
  13. Check and answer voice mails daily.
  14. Checks inventory and completes order forms for concessions and first aid
  15. Prepare and provide monthly updates and reports to the Aquatics Coordinator.
  16. Provide superior customer service to all facility guests.
  17. Performs regular equipment inspections
  18. Creates and adjusts climbing routes
  19. Provides instruction regarding climbing safety and proper use of equipment.
  20. Performs nightly check offs of rock wall and concessions.
  21. Other duties as assigned by the Aquatic Coordinator
  22. Helps to oversee the swim lesson program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Education and Experience:
  2. Graduation from high school

AND

  1. One year (1) experience as a lifeguard and/or headguard

OR

  1. An equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Considerable knowledge of the methods, techniques, and philosophies of operating a large multi-use aquatic facility; liability issues and injury prevention; organizational skills; working knowledge of personal computers and various software applications including spreadsheets, word processing, etc. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, volunteers, and the public; direct, motivate, develop, and evaluate subordinates; communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.

  1. Special Qualifications:

Applicants must possess American Red Cross Lifeguarding (Lifeguard Instructor certification preferred), First Aid, and CPR certifications AND must be able to demonstrate mastery of CPR and rescue skills at the time of interview. Applicants must hold a Lifeguard Instructor Certification (LGI), First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Certification, Lifeguard Management, and Food Handler's Permit or must obtain within 6 months of employment.

  1. Work Environment:

Incumbent of the position, employee performs in a typical pool setting with appropriate climate controls and typical settings associated with indoor/outdoor recreation environment. OSHA related hazards may be encountered under controlled conditions. Tasks require a variety of physical activities, generally involving muscular strain, such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, and lifting. Talking, hearing and seeing are essential to performance of daily tasks. Common eye, hand, finger dexterity needed in performance of duties. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, discriminative thinking and creative problem solving.


As per Washington City policy and/or procedures, a background check, and drug screening evaluation will be required for potential new hire candidates prior to an offer of employment.
