Intern Assignment - Lab Assistant - Bio Skills - Summer 2026
Job Summary
We're looking for a rising Junior or Senior, nursing student, or pre-med student to join our lab team as a Lab Assistant Intern. This role is ideal for someone with a strong interest in the medical or life sciences field, looking to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced, clinical laboratory environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain cleanliness and sterility of equipment and work areas, including cleaning shelves, wiping down surfaces, and general lab upkeep
  • Ensure necessary inventory- such as tubing, drapes, and instrumentation- is properly stocked and readily available
  • Manage rotational storage of specimens (cadavers), ensuring post-lab cadavers are properly positioned and prepared for outgoing transfer
  • Prepare samples and specimens for testing utilizing a wide range of laboratory equipment
  • Support and assist lab manager during wet labs by retrieving and providing instruments as needed
  • Assist with lab coordination, responding to customer inquiries, and managing email and calendar communications

Required Qualifications/ Required Skills and Competencies
  • Must be comfortable working in a cadaver environment and able to receive/handle cadavers according to specific protocols and instructions
  • Familiar with bio skills laboratory environments, ideally with 1 year experience at an ASC (Ambulatory Surgery Center) or internship in a related business medical field
  • Strict adherence to proper procedures, policies, and health and safety regulations
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow precise instructions in a highly regulated environment
  • Proven ability to prioritize competing tasks and multi-task effectively in a fast-paced laboratory environment
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team setting
  • Proactive mindset with a high standard of professionalism and care
  • Physical requirements: Ability to bend, stand for extended periods, and lift heavy objects up to 60lbs

Schedule
  • Wednesday - Saturday, 8:00a - 5:00p, with flexibility to work Mondays and Tuesdays as needed; hours may extend depending on lab needs
  • On Site located in Baldwin, NY

Salary Range: $17.00/hour US
