What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Life Science Executive, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Life Science Executive, you need deep knowledge of the life sciences sector, strong leadership abilities, and often an advanced degree such as a PhD, MD, or MBA. Familiarity with regulatory frameworks, clinical development processes, and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems is typically required. Strategic vision, exceptional communication, and stakeholder management are critical soft skills for driving organizational growth and fostering innovation. These skills and qualities are vital to effectively lead teams, navigate complex regulations, and ensure sustained business success in a competitive industry.

What is the highest paying job in life science?

In the life sciences, executive roles such as Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) or Chief Medical Officer (CMO) tend to be the highest paying positions, often earning six-figure salaries or more. These roles require extensive experience, leadership skills, and advanced degrees, and they oversee research, development, or medical strategies within organizations.

What are Life Science Executives?

Life Science Executives are senior leaders who manage organizations or departments within the life sciences sector, which includes biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and related fields. They are responsible for setting strategic direction, overseeing research and development, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving business growth. These executives often have backgrounds in science, business, or medicine, and they work closely with various stakeholders including researchers, investors, and regulatory agencies. Their leadership is crucial for bringing innovative healthcare products to market and advancing scientific breakthroughs.

What jobs will be left by 2030?

Life Science Executives will continue to be essential as the industry advances, but roles involving routine laboratory tasks or manual data entry may decline due to automation and AI technologies. Skills in data analysis, biotechnology, and regulatory knowledge will remain valuable for leadership positions in the field.

What careers can I do with life science?

A life science executive typically has career options in research and development, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and regulatory affairs. They often work in labs, corporate settings, or clinical environments, utilizing skills in scientific analysis, project management, and industry regulations. Advanced degrees and industry certifications can enhance career prospects in these fields.

What can I do with my life science degree?

A life science degree prepares individuals for roles such as research scientist, laboratory technician, or quality control analyst. It often requires knowledge of laboratory techniques, data analysis, and sometimes certifications like Good Laboratory Practice (GLP). Career options include healthcare, biotech, pharmaceuticals, and environmental science.

What are some common challenges faced by Life Science Executives when leading cross-functional teams?

Life Science Executives often lead diverse teams that include scientists, regulatory specialists, marketers, and business development professionals. One common challenge is aligning these varied groups toward shared strategic goals while balancing scientific innovation with regulatory compliance and commercial objectives. Effective communication and strong leadership skills are essential to bridge knowledge gaps and foster collaboration. Additionally, executives must stay agile in responding to rapid industry changes and evolving market needs, ensuring that teams remain motivated and productive.

Job description

Sales Development Representative (SDR) - Life Sciences

Have a degree or background in Life Sciences and want to apply your knowledge in a more commercial, client-facing role beyond the lab?
Excited to represent a leading AI-driven platform trusted by global pharma and biotech companies, staying close to cutting-edge science?
Are you confident, resilient, and motivated to succeed in a high-activity sales role where effort drives pipeline, progression, and earning potential? If this sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you.

Role Summary:

We have exciting opportunities for Sales Development Representatives to join PatSnap and drive new business growth within our Life Sciences vertical. This role is built for individuals with a Life Sciences background who wants to build a career in high-performance sales - using your curiosity, competitiveness, and communication skills to win new business. If you're motivated by targets, progression, and uncapped earning potential, and want to develop into a top-performing salesperson, this is your opportunity. As an SDR, you'll be on the front line of revenue generation - prospecting, engaging, and qualifying new customers across pharma, biotech, and medical devices.

You will:

  • Take a hunter mindset to outbound - owning high-volume outreach across calls, email, and LinkedIn
  • Use your scientific credibility to break into conversations with senior R&D and innovation leaders
  • Create and qualify pipeline, turning cold prospects into real commercial opportunities
  • Handle rejection, stay persistent, and consistently hit and exceed activity and pipeline targets
  • Build the foundations of closing, influencing, and deal progression
  • Partner with Account Executives to convert pipeline into revenue

This is a high-activity, target-driven sales role where success comes down to your drive, resilience, and hunger to win. If you bring the work ethic and mindset, the progression and earning potential are there to match.

This is a remote position based in the Phoenix area. This role supports Account Executives based in California and Texas and may require periodic in-person collaboration in the Phoenix area.

  • Working closely with an Account Executive, who will mentor and help to develop your sales skills, while you support their activity by creating sales leads and booking their product demonstrations
  • Owning your territory and choosing which companies to call and will have the autonomy to be creative with how you introduce PatSnap to prospects
  • Learning the necessary tools to be able to succeed in the role; what we ask of you is a can-do attitude and an open mind to learning
  • Researching using varied and creative techniques to identify business opportunities (sales leads)
About You:
  • A recent graduate (or early career professional) in Life Sciences or a related field
  • Motivated by earning potential, with a strong drive to succeed in an uncapped commission environment
  • Confident and proactive, comfortable initiating conversations and building relationships with new people
  • Resilient and target-driven, with the ability to bounce back and stay motivated in a high-performance sales environment
  • Competitive by nature, with a clear ambition to exceed goals and progress quickly
  • A strong communicator, able to translate complex scientific ideas into clear, compelling value
  • Curious and coachable, eager to learn and continuously improve
  • Highly organised and self-motivated, able to manage your time and pipeline effectively
  • Interested in technology and innovation, and how it drives business and R&D forward
  • A natural problem solver, who enjoys understanding challenges and helping others find solutions
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, both independently and as part of a team
Benefits & Perks:

A genuinely strong sales culture we're really proud of. High-performing but low ego, social, and dynamic. It's a team that supports each other, shares best practice, raises standards, and celebrates wins properly together. Alongside a great product, it's one of the best parts of working here.
