Decision Science Analyst Intern

Within defined guidelines and framework,providesdecision support for business areas across the enterprise. Staff in this area willbe responsible forapplying mathematical and statistical techniques and/or innovative /quantitative analytical approaches to draw conclusions and make 'insighttoaction' recommendations to answer businessobjectivesand motivate change. The essence of work performed by the Decision Science Analyst involves gathering, manipulating, and synthesizing data (e.g., attributes, transactions, behaviors, etc.), models and other relevant information to draw conclusions and make recommendations resulting in implementable strategies.

The internships will be based at the USAA Corporate Headquarters in San Antonio, Texas. Interns offered full-time roles may have the opportunity to work out of one of USAA's satellite locations.

Whatyou'lldo:

Our Interns work under direct supervision andfollowrisk and compliance procedures and guidance, perform routine work assignments and problem resolution to support other team members, including the following tasks:

  • Leverages business,analyticaland technical knowledge to understand businessobjectives.

  • The business problems analyzed are typically segments of a larger problem with significant impacttocurrent and/or future business strategy.

  • Applies quantitative analytical approaches to draw conclusions and make recommendations to answer the businessobjectiveand drive theappropriate change.

  • Under direct supervision and guidance, manipulates structured and unstructured data to enable sophisticated analytical solutions.

  • Supports the delivery of business insights using machine learning, simulation, and optimization.

  • Partners with senior team members to develop and deploy models within the Model Development Control (MDC) and Model Risk Management (MRM) framework.

  • Support maintenance of Information Asset Inventories to ensure data and assets are cataloged appropriately.

  • Support ensuring that information is deliveredin accordance withInformation Governance standards and data management practices as advised.

  • Supportmetadata repositorymaintenance andproper metadata association.

What you need to have:

To qualify, you mustbe pursuinga bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university, and plan to graduate after the final day of the internship. Most of our internsparticipatethe summer between their junior and senior years.Our 2027 internship will start onJune 2,2027and last through August13, 2027.

  • Graduation date cannot be prior toAugust13, 2027

  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher in quantitative analyticsfieldsuch as Economics, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Sciences, Operations Research, Data and/or Business Analysis, Data Science, AI, or other quantitative subjectarea.

  • Up to 2 years of experience in data/analytics, ordirectly relatedfunctional business experience (i.e.P&C, Bank, Finance, etc.).

  • Foundational knowledge of statistical/mathematical decision making and/or testing methodologies.

  • Knowledge of data analysis tools, data visualization, developing analysis queries and procedures in SQL, SAS, BI tools or other analysis software, and relevant industry data & methods and ability to connect external insights to business problems.

What sets you apart:

  • Graduation date betweenAugust 2027and June2028

  • Knowledge of mathematical and statistical techniques and approaches used to drive fact-based decision-making.

  • Knowledge of data analysis tools, data visualization, developing analysis queries and procedures in SQL, SAS, BI tools or other analysis software, and relevant industry data & methods and ability to connect external insights to business problems.

  • Experience in one or more multifaceted scripted language (Python, R, etc.) and database query language (such as SQL, HQL, NoSQL, etc.) for performing statistical analyses and/or building and scoring AI/ML models

Compensation range:Thesalary range for this position is: $26.50 - $36.00.Interns will receive an intern stipend toassistwith expenses.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.
