What is a licensing associate?

Licensing Associates are professionals who manage and facilitate the process of licensing intellectual property, such as patents, copyrights, or trademarks, for organizations like universities, research institutions, or corporations. They work to identify commercial opportunities, negotiate licensing agreements, and ensure compliance with relevant laws and policies. Licensing Associates often serve as a bridge between inventors, legal teams, and potential business partners to maximize the value of intellectual property assets.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a licensing associate?

To thrive as a Licensing Associate, you need a solid understanding of intellectual property law, contract negotiation, and business development, often supported by a relevant degree such as in law, business, or life sciences. Familiarity with contract management systems, IP databases, and proficiency in Microsoft Office are typically required, and some roles may value certifications like CLP (Certified Licensing Professional). Strong attention to detail, interpersonal communication, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously are standout soft skills. These competencies are crucial for successfully negotiating agreements, ensuring legal compliance, and building positive partnerships that maximize licensing value.

What are some common challenges licensing associates face when negotiating licensing agreements?

Licensing Associates often navigate complex negotiations that require balancing the interests of their organization with those of external partners. A key challenge is ensuring that terms protect intellectual property rights while also being commercially attractive to licensees. They must also stay up-to-date with legal and regulatory changes that can impact agreements and address potential conflicts or ambiguities in contract language. Effective communication and attention to detail are essential for managing these challenges and fostering positive, long-term partnerships.

Job description

Our VISION is a mindful and supportive community of connected individuals helping each other find their inner ZEN.

We are a person-centered mental health counseling agency, and we are seeking a mindful and supportive Mental Health Counselor to join our team. We offer the stability and support of an agency, but we also offer the flexibility and individuality of a group practice. Instead of salary or hourly based pay, we offer commission based pay. We can help you take the next step in your career as either an employee or a contractor. We can also help you launch your own private practice.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct individual and group counseling sessions to address mental health.
  • Assess clients' needs through interviews, case histories, and observational techniques.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans that align with clients' goals and concerns.
  • Monitor client progress and adjust treatment plans as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records in compliance with ethical and legal standards.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals and community resources to support client needs.
  • Stay informed of the latest therapeutic treatments, modalities, and interventions through ongoing professional development.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, or a related field.
  • State license.
  • Proven experience in counseling.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build rapport with clients.
  • Empathetic and non-judgmental approach to counseling.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Benefits:

  • Commission based pay where full-time work is 20 hours per week (about 24 clients): 35% commission for pre-licensed Associate employees, 50% commission for Licensed employees, and 65% for Licensed independent contractors. Part-time work is available at a lower commission rate.
  • Comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision and 401K with company matching.
  • Paid time off and paid holidays.
  • Opportunities for professional development including a continuing education benefit.
  • Supportive, transparent, and collaborative work environment.

Please consider taking the next step in your journey as a mental health professional with us.
