Salary and Benefits
- Management Salary Schedule (2025-2026) Range 38: $9,650 to $12,261 monthly or $9,901 to $12,512 monthly with earned Doctorate.

Scope of Assignment
Under direction of the Dean of Instruction and Student Learning, the Director plans, oversees, and manages Library and Learning Center activities and operations, including budget management and personnel actions. The Director works closely with deans, faculty, and staff to increase student success and engagement across college-wide learning activities.
Responsibilities / Essential Duties
- Plan, direct, manage, and assess the Library and Learning Center activities, including library materials, technology, models, and resources in circulation and tutoring services.
- Direct, supervise, and evaluate assigned classified professionals.
- Monitor and balance workloads to ensure alignment with job classification.
- Provide leadership in establishing effective working relationships and communication across campuses.
- Collaborate and coordinate with full‑time and part‑time faculty assigned to the Library and Learning Center.
- Monitor assigned budgets for the Library and Learning Center.
- Develop and provide a comprehensive Tutor Training program, including curriculum development and instruction; may teach Tutor Training classes.
- Recommend high‑impact, research‑based practices in response to state and national higher education trends.
- Manage data systems for apportionment; coordinate with the Institutional Researcher to develop analytical reports.
- Provide leadership through program review and strategic planning processes.
- Attend appropriate conferences, workshops, and trainings.
- Recommend and assign professional development opportunities for classified professionals.
- Develop and maintain internal and external relationships; participate in meetings, committees, and task forces representing the Library and Learning Center.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a discipline taught at the college or in education, educational psychology, instructional psychology, or another master’s with emphasis in adult learning theory.
- One year of tutoring or teaching experience, preferably within a community college setting.
- Ability to provide library services and to plan and develop budgets.
- Knowledge of student instruction methods, tutoring center management, employee group management, training facilitation, and the California Community College system.
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience serving students in higher education.
- At least two years of supervising and directing staff.
- Knowledge of instruction and tutoring methods.
- Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and academic abilities.
- Enthusiasm for the learning process.
- Vision and energy to plan and organize programs that enhance student success.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills, active listening, professional boundary maintenance, and managerial discretion to build positive relationships with students, staff, administrators, and faculty.
- Experience leading teams through organizational change, leadership transitions, or restructuring with a focus on trust‑building and staff engagement.
- Experience supervising classified professionals in a collective bargaining and shared‑governance community college environment.
- Experience administering or coordinating services across multiple locations.
- Bilingual.
Licenses and Certificates
- Valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.
Physical and Mental Standards
- Mobility: sit for long periods, move about an office, stand occasionally, and reach above and below desk level.
- Dexterity: fine manipulation sufficient to operate a keyboard, handle papers, write, and take notes.
- Lifting: occasional lifting of items up to 25 pounds.
- Visual: close vision sufficient for reading files, documents, and computer screens.
- Hearing/Talking: normal hearing and speaking for telephone and in‑person communication.
- Emotional and psychological: ability to make decisions, concentrate, interact frequently with others, and meet deadlines.
Typical Working Conditions
- Work generally performed in the East and West Campus Library & Learning Centers.
- May require evening and weekend hours.
