Job description


SALARY: $19.70 - $24.89 (per hour) / The position will be compensated in eight step raises to be awarded annually on the anniversary date of employment.
Bargaining Unit: Library Union - SEIU, Local 888

REPORTS TO: Administration Department, Library Director
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: N/A
SCHEDULE: Part-time position (24 hours per week) - This is a year-round position with morning, afternoon and evening hours.
The Library Assistant/Delivery Person performs a variety of library duties inside and outside library premises. The role is integral to resource sharing between the Brockton library branches
and the Old Colony Library Network. Additionally, the Library Assistant/Delivery will assist patrons with traditional library services and carry out Project Outreach deliveries within the city.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Operates the library delivery vehicle in delivering library materials among the libraries and other delivery locations
  • Assists in providing circulation services
  • Closes and secures building
  • Provides security for staff, patrons and building during evening hours
  • Photocopies materials for library use
  • Inputs data into the OCLN database
  • Mends materials
  • Empties sidewalk drop boxes
  • Cleans library materials
  • Participates in workshop and training opportunities
  • Performs other duties as assigned by a designated library supervisor
Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma required; some college preferred
  • Must possess valid Massachusetts driver's license
  • Ability to operate library delivery van required
  • Ability to carry book bags and boxes weighing 30 - 40 pounds
  • Basic working knowledge of computers required
  • Willingness and ability to learn new procedures quickly and thoroughly
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative and work independently
  • Ability to meet scheduling requirements of library required
  • Ability to relate to patrons and staff with professional friendliness, patience, tact and resourcefulness
