Job description

Supervisor: Martin Walters & Denise Green
Position Role: Library workers (1) are responsible for providing excellent customer and information services at the two library service desks, as well as aiding ongoing stacks maintenance and other projects as assigned by full and part-time library staff. This position is designed for student workers interested in gaining introductory experience in academic library work and includes all necessary training to complete work in a proficient manner.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provides excellent customer service at the main desk
  • Checks in and out all library materials
  • Comprehensively understands library policies, procedures, and services
  • Performs basic Circulation functions on the Integrated Library System (ILS) - with advanced permissions
  • Effectively navigates the library webpage and online resources
  • Answers the main library phone, directs calls appropriately, and leaves detailed messages for staff as needed
  • Monitors the presence of food and drink in public areas
  • Assists patrons with basic reference questions, referring to permanent staff as appropriate
  • Assists patrons with paper and online forms (recall, storage, acquisitions requests, etc.)
  • Shelves library materials according to call number
  • Works on ongoing projects and supervisor assigned tasks (shelf reading, inventory, dusting, displays, gift searching)
  • Processes and packages OhioLINK items
  • Works weekend shifts and shifts where no permanent library staff member is present
  • Fills in as acting circulation desk supervisor when no permanent library staff is present
  • Creates library patron accounts for approved special borrowers
  • Other duties as assigned
Pay Rate: $12.00/hr
Qualifications:
  • Works well with coworkers, supervisors, and patrons
  • Manages and adheres to scheduling commitments
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Able to lift physical Library materials and reach for shelving purposes is a requirement
  • Understands and follows written and oral instructions
  • Familiar with general computer tasks and basic online searching
  • Four hours per week minimum commitment
  • Previous library experience desirable but not required

Dates of Employment: 8/24/26 to 5/6/27, or the date a student has earned their full WS award, or is no longer enrolled full time, whichever comes first.
Evaluation Procedures & Schedule: All Library Workers will be evaluated and monitored on an ongoing basis, with one formal diagnostic per year to be completed with supervisor.
