Library Research Assistant


Job Description:


 Under the direction of the University Librarian this position will:

  • Provide virtual library assistance to students and faculty through appointments, email, and other online communication channels
  • Maintain regular schedule of availability for library research assistance appointments
  • Respond to inquiries submitted through the library email account and ensure timely resolution or referral of questions
  • Assist with the creation and maintenance of LibGuides, library webpages, and digital learning content
  • Assist with the scheduling, hosting, and presentation of introductory Library Classroom visits
  • Support library outreach initiatives, workshops, webinars, and activities designed to increase awareness and utilization of library resources
  • Assist students in navigating academic databases, e-books, and other digital resources, and provide guidance on effective research strategies and the use of scholarly resources.
  • Maintain accurate records of appointments, inquiries, and completed projects
  • Assist with special projects related to library services, instructional support, and student success initiatives
  • Remain informed about library resources, university policies, and emerging technologies relevant to academic research and learning
  • Troubleshoot basic issues related to library databases and electronic resources and refer technical issues, as appropriate.
  • Handles other projects and tasks as needed


Minimum requirements to be considered for this position:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workplace
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment

Preferred qualifications for this position:

  • Master of Library and Information Science; or equivalent professional experience
  • Experience in higher education settings such as libraries, academic support centers, or tutoring environments
  • Familiarity with academic database research and scholarly resources
  • Experience creating instructional materials, tutorials, videos, or online learning content
  • Experience with LibGuides and information literacy instruction
  • Experience providing virtual support services
