Salary Range: $42,800.42 - $63,772.28

Works under general supervision of an Agency Manager or other designated supervisory personnel to provide public information services at the general reference desk in the areas of children, teen, and adult references and readers' advisory to the public. Works at various library agencies to assist with the collection and development of library materials. Recommends appropriate reading materials for adults, teens and children to library management. Works in teams with various library personnel to perform professional library services, such as assisting customers with computers, identifying books in a collection, etc. Provides basic circulation desk services, as needed. Assists with planning and/or conducting programs for children, teens, and adults. Lifts and carries books, supplies, or materials to assist customers. Stocks library shelves with books and reading materials. Assists in training staff and volunteers, as assigned.

Typical Physical Demands

Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing. Must be able to operate personal computer and all basic office equipment. Requires stooping, bending, stretching, pushing cartloads of books, supplies, etc. up to 40 lbs and lifting up to 25 lbs of books.

Typical Working Conditions

Works primarily in a public library environment. May require some travel within Shelby County to various meetings and work areas (library branches). Must be able to work a flexible schedule, which includes nights and weekends.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts, General or Interdisciplinary Studies, Adult/Youth Education, or related field of study from an accredited four (4) year college/university. One (1) year experience in customer service related work preferred; or any combination of experience or training which enables one to perform the essential job functions.
