ABOUT
The Part-Time Library Assistant provides customer service and general operational support for the Learning Commons. This position assists students, employees, and other patrons with library resources and services while helping maintain a welcoming, organized, and effective learning environment.
This is a part-time position and can work up to 18 hours per week.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Primary Responsibilities
  • Guide patrons on library resources, including online databases and research tools
  • Answer questions related to library resources, policies, procedures, and workshops
  • Provide information regarding all departments housed in the building
  • Assist patrons in checking out and returning library materials
  • Collect fines for overdue items or monies for damaged/lost materials
  • Help maintain reserve materials
  • Answer phone courteously and politely and take accurate messages as needed
  • Assist with processing journals and magazines
  • Complete opening/closing duties of the building based on work schedule
  • Provide desk coverage and greet patrons in a friendly manner
  • Shelve books and reorganize any that are out of order
  • Check book drops for any returned books
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Conduct an hourly headcount to maintain an accurate record of library attendance

Secondary Responsibilities
  • Assist with clerical tasks and maintain orderliness of workstation
  • Keep supply areas tidy and organized
  • Perform hand-delivery of mail to other campus offices
  • Support department staff with special projects or events as needed
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings
  • Perform light cleaning duties such as dusting, cleaning tables, pushing in chairs, throwing away trash, etc.
  • Help maintain a quiet, respectful, and clean study environment
  • Promote Learning Commons student support services

Work Environment: Work is primarily conducted during normal business hours. Some work may be required on nights and weekends.

RETIREMENT
Part-Time Retirement

Part-time employees are required to participate in the part-time retirement fund. The retirement fund is invested in a group fixed annuity contract with Ohio National Life Insurance Company. The plan will provide you and your beneficiary with fully vested cash settlement or income benefits after termination of employment for any reason.

Library Use
Employees may utilize the Vaughn Library and Learning Resource Center.
Fitness Facility Use
Employee and immediate family use of the Apache Recreation Center - an indoor weight and exercise center, 18-hole disc golf course, covered basketball course, and outdoor ping-pong table and cornhole. The cost is $5 per ID.
