Job Summary

Provides senior-level leadership for Muskogee Public Library, a full-service library serving a diverse community, with responsibility for setting direction, overseeing branch operations, leading and developing staff, and stewarding resources to ensure exceptional public service. As the library’s primary community representative, this role builds strategic partnerships and advances Eastern Oklahoma Library System (EOLS) priorities through effective management, fundraising, community engagement, and high-impact programs and services.

Essential Functions

• Provides strategic leadership for the branch by setting goals, evaluating services, and driving continuous improvement.
• Oversees all aspects of branch operations in collaboration with the team leads.
• Manages financial processes, budgets, and resources in alignment with System priorities.
• Implements EOLS policies, procedures, and standards, including patron privacy, security, and CIPA requirements.
• Hires, supervises, and advances staff by fostering a positive and inclusive work environment that supports excellent patron service and professional growth.
• Oversees collection development by providing direction to ensure materials meet community needs and reflect diverse interests and perspectives.
• Collaborates with team leads on the development of programming, community engagement, PR, and marketing materials–social media, articles, displays, and signage.
• Represents and advocates for the library by building partnerships, engaging with community organizations, and promoting library initiatives.
• Partners with Friends of the Library to support library needs.
• Secures outside funding and manages reporting compliance to maintain good standing.
• Analyzes branch performance metrics and prepares reports and improvement plans.
• Engages in ongoing professional development to remain current with library trends, best practices, and emerging services.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to foster a positive, professional, and productive work environment.
• Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with patrons, staff, and partners.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing community needs.

Education And Experience

• Master of Library Science (MLS/MLIS) from an ALA-accredited institution.
• Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible library experience, including at least three (3) years of supervisory experience.
• Level VI Oklahoma Public Librarian Certification (or ability to obtain within the required timeframe).

Physical And Environmental Conditions

Work requires no unusual physical effort. May require lifting and moving light to moderately heavy items, such as boxes and equipment, up to 50 pounds.

The work environment includes typical office, library, and public meeting spaces. It requires adherence to standard safety practices, including the use of office equipment and compliance with fire and building safety regulations.
