Pay Rate: $16.92 per hour

Work Hours: up to 30 hours per week

*If you are a PSCC Student and eligible for the Student Employment Program, you will be paid on experience and the rates are $14.00 (no experience), $15.00 (6 months experience) and $16.00 (9 months experience)*

Position Summary: To staff the service desk, provide customer service using a computer-based library system, and provide other library support services, including circulation of materials, shelf maintenance, and upkeep of copiers and printers.

Duties and Responsibilities:

80% Staff the service desk and check out and check in library materials and perform other processes using the circulation system. Answer directional and general, informational questions about library circulation processes and about the college. Add/update patron information in the library system. Participate in the performance of all activities related to intercampus loan. Handle questions related to overdue and lost materials. Maintain supplies of the various forms used at the circulation desk. Explain circulation policies to patrons and provide suggestions for improving circulation policies and procedures. Open/close the library.

20% Sort and shelve library materials and assist with shelf maintenance.

Note: The College reserves the right to assign every employee work that fulfills the strategic priorities and mission of the College

Required Qualifications:

A. High School diploma or equivalent.
B. Experience in using computers and a high degree of comfort in using a computer system and web pages to provide customer service.
C. Ability to work a flexible schedule.

(Part-time work experience is calculated at 50% credit of full-time work experience)
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

A. Requires basic knowledge of library circulation activities, processes, and procedures.
B. Ability to convey an attitude of service that encourages users to seek assistance.
C. Ability to provide assistance at the appropriate level and in a non-judgmental manner.
D. Ability to coordinate activities and communicate needs in a cordial manner to a variety of people including
students, faculty, supervisors, and other college personnel.
E. Ability to learn and explain services and policies to users.
F. Ability to use equipment and software to complete circulation and maintenance tasks.
G. Ability to lift books and boxes, push and pull loaded book trucks, and shelve/move materials (requires bending and stretching).
H. Ability to interpret complicated instructions.
I. Ability to perform detailed work accurately.
J. Ability to maintain, clean, and provide routine service for copiers, faxes, printers, and other equipment.
K. Ability to function independently in a complex and changing environment.
L. Ability to type/keyboard.
