Job description

Salary Range:$40,000.22 - $59,200.44
Works under the direction of the Agency Manager or Circulation Supervisor, to use the automated library system computer and software to perform circulation activities including clerical and paging duties of the library branch. Interprets and communicates work procedures and demonstrates appropriate customer service skills. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with coworkers. Participates in interviews for circulation staff. Functions as staff "in charge" of circulation desk in the absence of the Agency Manager or Circulation Supervisor as requested. Provides circulation training. May provide work direction for clerical and shelving related functions of the branch, which may include preparing weekly work schedules and responding to problem situations. Compiles statistics for circulation activities. Orders supplies for the branch. Maintains copy machines by scheduling routine maintenance checks. Counts daily receipts. Prepares and files bank deposits and money reports. Works on special projects such as receiving and processing donations and new materials and mends old materials. Charges and discharges materials on library customer accounts, including processing of interlibrary loan items. Discharges materials returned to the book drop or circulation return desk. Registers library customers. Maintains effective financial reporting procedures. Sets up and closes out cash registers, collects money, makes change for the payment of fines and fees, and enters monetary transactions into computer system and cash register. Performs computer data entry and searches shelves for materials to process and reconcile circulation-related computer-generated reports. Performs computer data entry to re-label and process library materials. Maintains library and office equipment and assists customers with the operation of equipment. Provides services to internal and external customers to support branch services and procedures, as well as the mission and goals of the Library System.


High school diploma or equivalent and two (2) years' experience performing customer service functions within a public-setting, including operating a personal computer.
 

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

1. Works Sunday schedule at the Central library performing circulation functions, as assigned.

2. Performs additional functions (essential or otherwise) which may be assigned.


 TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

Must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. Requires the ability to operate a cash register and general office equipment, such as a personal computer and telephone. Requires stooping, bending, stretching, and lifting and carrying books or other objects weighing up to 50 lbs.

Work is performed in a library environment. May be assigned to varying library branch locations around the City. May work in a mobile unit or, for short periods, outside emptying book drops. Occasional travel to meetings across the City and out-of-town may be required. Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, or holidays.
