By providing drop-in and scheduled consultative support to the Union College community, Bloomberg Student Mentors support access and use of the Bloomberg Terminal - a specialized database and terminal used in the finance sector - housed within Schaffer Library. Bloomberg Student Mentors assist a diverse group of students and faculty with use of the Bloomberg Terminal, including explaining economic principles, market terminology, and Terminal function keys and searching techniques. This role offers hands-on experience with a tool used by financial professionals worldwide, building skills directly applicable to careers in finance, economics, and investment management.

Student supervisor: Megan E. Welsh, Director of Research & Engagement

Work available: Days, Weekends

Rate of Pay: $9.70/hr

Number of Positions Available: 3

Schedule:

This position will work 8-12 hours each week depending upon work study award. Shifts are scheduled to fit around your commitments, but must be determined prior to the beginning of each term and must align with the hours that the Schaffer Library building is open. Currently, library hours during term are Monday-Thursday 8am-2am, Friday 8am-12am, Saturday 10am-12am, and Sunday 10am-2am.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist students and faculty with the use of the Bloomberg Terminal

  • Maintain a consistent schedule for walk-in assistance

  • Schedule appointments with students to assist with in-depth research questions

  • Create documentation or host events to promote and introduce students to the Bloomberg Terminal.

Qualifications:

Required

  • Dedication to excellent customer service

  • Punctual, reliable, and committed to staffing scheduled shifts

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as collaboration skills

  • Demonstrated high level of initiative, problem-solving skills, and analytical skills

  • Experience and knowledge of Bloomberg keyboard techniques and searching strategies

  • Completion of Bloomberg Market Concepts course, either before or during the first term of employment

Preferred

  • Economics major in Junior or Senior year

  • Active member of the Student Investment Fund

  • Completion of an internship which required using the Bloomberg Terminal

  • Completion of Envestnet Institute on Campus program
