Position Summary
The Director of Nursing (RN) - Women's and Children's Health provides strategic, clinical, and operational leadership for all Women's and Children's service lines. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based, and patient-centered care for women, infants, and pediatric patients while supporting organizational goals and regulatory compliance. The Director fosters a culture of excellence, safety, collaboration, and professional development.

The department is supported by approximately 40 FTEs and a multidisciplinary provider team utilizing advanced healthcare technology.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Operational Leadership
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate departmental goals, policies, and standards in alignment with hospital and system objectives.
  • Provide overall direction and oversight for Women's & Children's Services, ensuring optimal patient outcomes and satisfaction.
  • Maintain compliance with ACOG, AWHONN, AAP, Joint Commission, HIPAA, and other regulatory requirements.
Quality, Safety & Performance Improvement
  • Integrate evidence-based nursing practices into clinical protocols and workflows.
  • Monitor quality metrics, patient outcomes, and satisfaction data; lead performance improvement initiatives.
  • Support internal and external audits and implement corrective action plans as needed.
Staff Leadership & Development
  • Recruit, hire, onboard, mentor, and retain nursing and support staff.
  • Oversee staff education, competencies, certifications, and professional development.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and address corrective actions in accordance with policy.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing team environment.
Financial & Resource Management
  • Prepare, manage, and monitor departmental budgets and resources.
  • Ensure responsible fiscal management and alignment with organizational financial goals.
  • Participate in strategic planning and resource allocation.
Collaboration & Communication
  • Partner with physicians, advanced practice providers, and hospital leadership to enhance care coordination and service delivery.
  • Promote effective communication across multidisciplinary teams to support patient-centered care.
Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
Licensure & Certifications
  • Current West Virginia RN license or eligibility for licensure
  • BLS, ACLS, and NRP required (or obtained within designated timeframe)
Experience
  • 5-7 years of progressive leadership experience in Women's and Children's Health
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage complex clinical operations
  • Experience with budgeting, financial management, and performance improvement initiatives in acute care settings
