Job description

The Middle School Library Assistant is a staff position that reports to the Director of Libraries. The Middle School Library Assistant supports the Middle School Librarian in all aspects of library operations, including supervising the circulation desk, handling various administrative duties, and assisting with classes and other programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Open or close the library.
  • Cover the circulation desk, including managing lending and return of materials in the collection and processing of overdue notices.
  • Supervise the students while they are in the library.
  • Assist library users in locating and using print materials and digital resources.
  • Help library users with photocopying, scanning, and printing.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of the library collection, including cataloging, shelving, the weeding and repairing of books, and assisting with the annual inventory.
  • Maintain an attractive, orderly, and clean library environment.
  • Create monthly displays and assist with the promotion of new resources.
  • Maintain and order library supplies.
  • Create and edit Research Guides for student projects
  • Collaborate with the Library Department to maintain and update the Libraries website via Libguidesย 
  • Develop and revise Research Guides to support student projects.
  • Other duties associated with the role, as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Four-year undergraduate degree, preferably in Library or Information Science
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspaceย 
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong communication skills
