Job description

Library Technical Assistant

The Macdonald-Kelce Library at The University of Tampa is seeking a Library Technical Assistant to support daily library operations and provide exceptional service to students, faculty, staff, and guests. Reporting to the Circulation Manager, this position provides circulation services, assists patrons, supervises student employees, and supports course reserves and other library operations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Circulation Desk, serving as a primary point of contact for patron questions, library accounts, locating materials and resources, and basic technology assistance in person and by phone.
  • Oversee the management and maintenance of the Course Reserves collection.
  • Assist with training and supervising student employees and coordinating work assignments.
  • Instruct and assist patrons with library equipment and technology, including computers, printers, scanners, microfilm readers, and related equipment.
  • Perform library opening duties and provide backup support for processing new materials and interlibrary loan requests.
  • Alternate with other staff members with desk duty during service hours.
  • Participate in collection inventory, shelf-reading, shelving, and other projects designed to maintain the collection and enhance service to library users.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to learn, interpret, and explain library resources, services, and procedures.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple responsibilities in a busy environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Relevant experience providing customer service or instruction.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and the ability to quickly learn University systems and software, including Workday.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a solution-oriented approach.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse population of students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
  • Willingness to learn and embrace new technologies and evolving organizational practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of library practices and procedures.
  • Experience with library systems and software, including circulation functions.
  • Experience working at a library circulation or service desk.
  • Experience working in an academic library.

Work Schedule

Work hours for this position will vary throughout the year but typically will be 7:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. (Monday through Friday) during the academic year and 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. when classes are not in session. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
