POSITION SUMMARY:
The Library/Media Specialist at Danbury High School is a dynamic educator who collaborates with staff and students to promote digital literacy, research skills, and a love of reading across a large and diverse student population. The ideal candidate will foster a flexible, inclusive learning environment that supports academic excellence and innovation through the use of library/media resources and instructional technologies.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide access to and maintain a robust collection of print, digital, and multimedia resources aligned with the high school curriculum
- Instruct students in research, digital citizenship, media literacy, and effective use of information technologies
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to co-design and deliver integrated lessons that enhance student learning through media and technology
- Support curriculum development by providing instructional materials and resource guidance
- Promote a reading culture and support student choice through library programs and events
- Manage daily operations of the DHS library, including circulation, cataloging, inventory, and budgeting
- Curate and manage digital tools and databases, and support their use among staff and students
- Provide training and ongoing support to teachers on integrating instructional technology
- Maintain an engaging, organized, and safe library environment that meets the academic and social-emotional needs of students
- Monitor trends in instructional technology and educational resources to enhance library services
- Encourage ethical and responsible use of information and technology
- Participate in school-wide initiatives and professional development aligned with district goals
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
- Strong knowledge of library/media center management and digital resource curation
- Proficiency with educational technology tools, platforms, and databases
- Understanding of adolescent literacy development and secondary research skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with high school faculty across content areas
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage a large, diverse student population in a high-volume learning environment
- Experience supporting project-based learning and interdisciplinary instruction
- Commitment to culturally responsive practices and equitable access to information
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Active 062 Library Media Specialist Certification from the Connecticut State Department of Education
- Master's Degree in Library Science or related field preferred
- Experience working in a high school library/media setting strongly preferred
- Demonstrated ability to integrate technology in support of teaching and learning
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Danbury Board of Education may find appropriate
