What Does a Library Circulation Assistant Do?
A library circulation assistant provides basic support to the circulation clerk, other library staff, and patrons. PARAPROFESSIONAL VACANCY
7.5 hours a day Library Assistant Paraprofessional
Shared Position for Washington Elementary and Jefferson Elementary
Paraprofessional Duties Include
- Monitor and supervise students
- Deliver weekly library instruction to grades K3
- Manage book circulation, checkouts, returns, and inventory
- Partner with teachers to support curriculum goals and themes
- Recommend instructional resources and materials to support curriculum
- Evaluate materials to ensure they are age-appropriate, diverse, and aligned with curriculum standards
- Maintained circulation records, cataloging systems, and library budgets
- Develop library policies and procedures
- Ensure the library is a welcoming, inclusive environment, that promotes a love for reading
- Organize reading challenges, book fairs, and literacy events
- Promote new books while maintaining an organized and accessible library
Paraprofessional Qualifications
- Highly Qualified Parapro Approval (60 hours post-secondary work shown on a transcript or passing score on the Parapro assessment/diploma or GED)
- Interest and ability to work with students/teachers
- Ability to work with others as well as independently
- Ability to multi-task
Salary and Fringe Benefits
- Hourly rate will be based on the lane/step placement of the paraprofessional for the 26-27 school year per the DESPA collective bargaining agreement. Range: $15.00 - $18.41
- Fifteen (15) days per year sick leave.
- Two (2) days personal leave per year.
- Health, Vision, Dental and Life Insurance offered.
