Job Summary
The mission of the Georgia Gwinnett College Library is to support the institutional goals of the College by serving the information and research needs of its students, faculty, and staff. The library also serves as a resource center for the Gwinnett County community. Our Student Assistants play an integral role in helping us achieve this mission.
Responsibilities
  • Performs various circulation activities (checking library materials in and out, renewals, etc.)
  • Assists patrons in locating library materials using Library of Congress classification system
  • Assists patrons in using library equipment such as: computers, copiers, scanners, and printers
  • Answers incoming phone calls at the GGC Library Circulation Desk
  • Answers walk-up questions from library patrons; directs patrons to other staff/departments as needed
  • Assists with basic reference inquiries
  • Sorts and shelves library materials
  • Monitors security gate alarms and library entrance
  • Assists in maintaining the appearance of the library, keeping it neat and orderly
  • Participates in collection maintenance activities
  • Submits help desk tickets for troubleshooting library equipment
  • Cleans library computers and equipment
  • Performs related work as required
    Work hours -
    Student Assistants are required to work a minimum of ten hours per week, with a maximum of 25 hours per week. The library has a wide range of hours to cover, and the hours are subject to change. Work schedule will be based on the library's coverage needs and the student's class schedule.
    Currently, the library is open: Monday ยฟ Thursday, 7:30am to 8:30pm, Friday, 7:30am - 6:00pm and Sunday, 1:00pm ยฟ 5:00pm.
    Work shifts will include nights and/or weekends. Student Assistants do not work holidays, spring break, when the campus is closed for inclement weather or another situation where the campus is closed. Students may work reduced hours during intersession when classes are not in session. Library is open fewer hours during Summer semester.

Required Qualifications
  • Must be available to work evenings and weekends.
  • Must be currently enrolled in a minimum of 6.0 credit hours at Georgia Gwinnett College in the current semester.
  • Must be in good academic standing and maintain good academic standing for the duration of employment.
  • Must be in good conduct standing with the Georgia Gwinnett College maintain good conduct for the duration of employment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to serve a diverse college community with courtesy and professionalism.
  • Customer service orientation.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Basic knowledge of Windows environment, Microsoft Office, and Web browsers.
