A library circulation assistant provides basic support to the circulation clerk, other library staff, and patrons. Your daily responsibilities involve maintaining circulation and the circulation desk, returning books and reference materials to the shelves, shelf maintenance as necessary, and clerical functions like data entry. Job description
Summary The student library assistant provides entry level support in the daily operations of the Firelands Library. This role does not require prior library experience and serves as an introduction to library services, resources, and procedures. Under staff supervision, the student library assistant performs a variety of basic tasks that support circulation services, patron assistance, and the overall maintenance of the library.
Career Readiness Competencies: Communication Critical Thinking Teamwork Essential Functions Circulation and Patron support: Perform desk duties including answering phones, checking out and returning items, assisting with OhioLink and Main Campus requests, and responding to general patron questions. Technology Assistance: Help students with printing and computer access, including adding funds to BG1 cards, troubleshooting common issues, and contacting the computer lab for support when necessary. Materials and Facility Care: Shelve materials accurately, maintain cleanliness in library spaces and the staff breakroom, and restock supplies and the coffee bar as needed.
Staff and Project Support: Assist library staff with copying, office work, and special projects that contribute to library operations. Minimum Qualifications Currently enrolled at BGSU Firelands for at least six (6) credit hours. Ability to follow directions, work well with others, and also work independently with limited supervision.
Clerical and organizational skills helpful. Must be able to push library carts with books on them. Previous library experience helpful but not necessary.
