Job Summary
The Student Assistant will support the Library as an Operations Assistant on the Armstrong Campus beginning Fall 2026.
Student employees cannot work more than 1300 hours in a 12-consecutive month period.
Responsibilities
  • Provides general information about library facilities and services
  • Directs patrons to appropriate staff for specialized assistance
  • Answers phone calls courteously, transferring, handling, or recording messages as needed
  • Manages circulation tasks, including charging/discharging books, equipment, and reserve items
  • Arranges returned items in call number order and shelve circulating books
  • Assists patrons with computers, photocopiers, and scanning
  • Maintains paper and toner in printers
  • Sensitizes books for circulation
  • Empties book drops regularly and organizes materials for shelving
  • Shelf-reads and straightens books in assigned areas
  • Processes GIL Express and Interlibrary Loan materials
  • Updates patron records and assists with opening and closing the library

Shift Specifics
  • Up to 15 hours per week
  • Flexible with schedule of availability
  • Must be flexible and available to work/cover shifts as needed, including weekends
  • Must be available for at least one weekly closing shift (until 11 PM), at least one opening shift (8 AM), and willing to cover additional shifts when necessary.

  • Must be enrolled in six or more undergraduate credit hours or three or more graduate credit hours at Georgia Southern University.
