Electrical CAD Technician – Automotive Systems

Location: Pomona, CA | Department: Design & Engineering | Company: Phenix Truck & Van

Phenix Truck & Van is seeking a skilled and motivated Electrical CAD Technician – Automotive Systems to join our Design & Engineering team. This position is ideal for candidates with a strong background in AutoCAD drafting and hands-on understanding of 12V & 120V vehicle electrical systems, particularly in custom vehicle upfitting and commercial truck design.

Position Overview

The Electrical CAD Technician is responsible for producing and maintaining accurate 2D electrical diagrams and schematic packages for vehicle upfit projects. Working closely with engineering, project management, and production teams, this role ensures electrical systems are properly documented, manufacturable, and compliant with vehicle integration standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, modify, and maintain 2D electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and harness drawings using AutoCAD LT.
  • Interpret engineering redlines, technical input, and field data to produce production-ready documentation.
  • Generate Bills of Materials (BOMs) and drawing packages for production release.
  • Support electrical layout reviews and collaborate on best practices for routing, protection, and integration.
  • Participate in the review of completed vehicles to validate the accuracy of wiring design and diagrams.
  • Coordinate with engineers, shop personnel, and external vendors to resolve design issues and improve documentation.
  • Maintain drawing standards, part libraries, and file management discipline across design projects.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in CAD Drafting, Electrical Technology, or related technical discipline, or equivalent field experience.
  • 4+ years of experience drafting automotive or vehicle-related electrical schematics using AutoCAD.
  • Working knowledge of 12V & 120V vehicle electrical systems, components, and integration principles.

Core Competencies

  • Proficiency in 2D drafting with AutoCAD LT.
  • Understanding of standard electrical symbols, wire color codes, and schematic conventions.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, vehicle layout documents, and specifications.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate across engineering and production teams.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
  • Comfortable working in both office and vehicle/shop environments, including under-dash or chassis observation if needed.

Software Proficiency

  • AutoCAD LT (required)
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams)

Work Environment

  • Approximately 70% office/design work, 30% on the production floor or reviewing physical vehicle installs.
