Job description

SUMMARY:

This position will be responsible for the efficient daily operation of the Canyon Area Library and will work under the general direction of the library director.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to work in the United States
  • High school diploma or equivalent

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

None

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Charging and discharging all materials
  • Reserve and hold requested books, calling patrons to notify when materials are in-house
  • Take telephone and e-mail requests for materials and information
  • Maintain the proper forms and cards for patron records
  • Process customer transactions, which includes making change, recording deposits and accounting for receipts
  • Assist patrons with retrieving materials and directing them to information based on their needs
  • Shelving books and maintenance of shelves
  • Prepare book jackets and spine labels
  • Assign MARC records to new books, CDs, DVDs, and other materials as needed
  • Enter new materials into the Harrington Library Consortium database
  • Assists patrons in accessing the internet and basic computer skills
  • Provide assistance in printing, library Wi-Fi access, wireless printing, and use of the e-book system

WORK SCHEDULE:

The position is part-time and the average work schedule will be around 20 hours per week. Working on weekends (Saturdays) is required to maintain library access for citizens.

The work schedule for this position will be:

Tuesday 9-1:30 pm

Wednesday 9-1:30 pm

Thursday 1:30-6pm

Saturday 9-3pm (1-2 Saturday shifts per month)

  • Essential duties are performed both indoors and occasionally outdoors for events.
  • Exposure to weather conditions is not likely for the majority of work performed indoors.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

Travel for the position is considered minimal. There may be occasional travel required for training and certification maintenance. Also, some travel may be required to obtain supplies and equipment. For the most part, the majority of travel is local, within the Amarillo and Canyon areas.
