Description
LAC Federal is seeking a Senior Library Information Specialist (Persian/Farsi Language) to support the a federal intelligence information center. This position provides specialized research, collection development, acquisitions, and information services supporting the Department of the Air Force's scientific and technical intelligence mission. The successful candidate will identify, evaluate, acquire, organize, and disseminate Persian/Farsi-language scientific, technical, political, and commercial publications while supporting researchers through advanced information discovery, metadata development, electronic resource management, and customer-focused library services in a secure federal environment.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct advanced Persian/Farsi-language research using commercial databases, publicly available information (PAI), and commercially available information (CAI) resources to support Government research requirements.
  • Identify, evaluate, and acquire Persian/Farsi-language books, journals, reports, conference proceedings, standards, technical publications, digital resources, and subscription services.
  • Monitor emerging scientific, technical, industrial, political, and cultural publications relevant to customer organizations and provide timely notifications of new resources.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with publishers, vendors, research institutes, and information providers worldwide.
  • Provide research assistance and respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) involving scientific and technical information resources.
  • Create and maintain descriptive metadata, including English translations or transliterations of Persian/Farsi-language titles, abstracts, and publication information for the Library's Content Management System (CMS).
  • Assist with cataloging and creation of brief bibliographic records for foreign-language materials.
  • Support administration of electronic resources by maintaining accurate subscription information and usage data.
  • Prepare summaries, reports, and information products documenting research activities, acquisitions, and customer support provided during each reporting period.
  • Collaborate with fellow language specialists, librarians, and technical staff to improve workflows, enhance information discovery services, and support continuous process improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with Government security requirements, copyright restrictions, licensing agreements, and contract quality standards.

Requirements
Mandatory Qualifications
  • U.S. Citizen.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Near-native proficiency in reading and writing Persian/Farsi, with the ability to translate or summarize technical publications accurately in English.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Persian/Farsi social, political, scientific, and cultural environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using commercial and open-source research databases, web search tools, and digital information resources.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple simultaneous assignments and changing priorities.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, customer-focused environment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain all required Government security credentials.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS/MLS) from an ALA-accredited institution.
  • Two or more years of professional experience supporting libraries, research organizations, intelligence programs, or scientific information centers.
  • Experience acquiring or managing foreign-language library collections.
  • Experience cataloging foreign-language materials using MARC21, RDA, OCLC Connexion, or other integrated library systems.
  • Familiarity with scientific and technical information resources, engineering literature, patents, standards, or defense-related publications.
  • Experience administering electronic resources, subscription databases, or digital repositories.
  • Knowledge of metadata standards, authority control, taxonomy development, or multilingual metadata creation.
  • Experience supporting Department of Defense, Intelligence Community, or other federal agencies.
  • Familiarity with Persian/Farsi academic publishing, government publications, and commercial information vendors.
  • Experience working in secure or controlled information environments.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to remain seated for extended periods while conducting online research, analyzing Persian/Farsi-language publications, creating metadata, preparing reports, and using multiple computer applications, with frequent use of a keyboard, mouse, and dual monitors.
  • Ability to occasionally stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift or carry materials weighing up to 20 pounds, including books, journals, files, and office supplies, while organizing collections or retrieving library resources.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and spoken English and Persian/Farsi with Government personnel, vendors, and library staff, with sufficient visual acuity to review detailed Persian/Farsi and English documents, digital resources, metadata, and technical publications, and the ability to work in a secure office environment while maintaining compliance with Government security requirements.
