The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing key accounting functions, managing a team of accounting professionals, and ensuring the timely and accurate completion of financial reporting activities. This role plays a critical part in the monthly close process, maintenance of internal controls, compliance with U.S. GAAP, and support of the organization's growth initiatives, including acquisitions and practice integrations.
The ideal candidate is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with healthcare accounting experience and a demonstrated ability to lead accounting teams in a fast-paced, multi-entity environment.
Job Description
Accounting Operations
  • Manage and oversee day-to-day accounting activities for assigned entities and business units.
  • Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of the general ledger.
  • Monitor compliance with company accounting policies and procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining strong internal controls over financial reporting.

Financial Close and Reporting
  • Lead portions of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
  • Ensure timely completion of balance sheet reconciliations and variance analyses.
  • Prepare and review financial statements and supporting schedules.
  • Analyze financial results and identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Support external audits and other compliance-related reviews.

Team Leadership
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of accountants and senior accountants.
  • Establish performance expectations and provide ongoing coaching and feedback.
  • Review work product to ensure accuracy and adherence to accounting standards.
  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, and training new team members.

Healthcare Accounting
  • Support accounting for healthcare-specific transactions, including:

    • Management fee arrangements
  • Collaborate with Revenue Cycle, Operations, Human Resources, and Finance teams to ensure accurate financial reporting.

  • Assist with implementation of accounting system enhancements and automation initiatives.
  • Support integration of newly acquired practices and entities.
  • Develop and document standardized accounting procedures.

Special Projects
  • Assist with acquisition accounting and integration activities.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes.
  • Participate in ad hoc financial analyses and strategic initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Active CPA license.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • 2+ years of experience supervising or leading accounting staff.
  • Healthcare accounting experience, including physician practices, healthcare services organizations, hospitals, ambulatory care organizations, healthcare MSOs, or similar environments.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience with ERP and financial management systems (Netsuite and Workday Adaptive Analytics a plus)
  • Experience in a multi-entity or multi-location healthcare environment.
  • Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, and practice integrations.
  • Knowledge of physician compensation models and healthcare revenue cycle processes.
