Job description

hackajob is collaborating with LexisNexis to connect them with exceptional professionals for this role.

About the Team

The Web Access Management (WAM) team builds and operates the platform that secures access to applications across the LexisNexis ecosystem. Our services provide authentication, authorization, session management, and identity integration that enable thousands of internal and customer-facing applications to operate securely and reliably.

Our team develops highly available, cloud-native microservices using Java, Micronaut, PostgreSQL, AWS, Kubernetes, and event-driven architectures powered by Amazon SQS, SNS, and EventBridge. We value engineering excellence, automation, continuous learning, and collaborative problem solving while building foundational services used across the enterprise.

The Opportunity

We're looking for a Software Engineer II who enjoys building reliable backend systems, solving challenging engineering problems, and working with modern cloud-native technologies.

You'll work alongside experienced engineers to design, build, and enhance core platform services while gaining exposure to distributed systems, identity and access management, cloud infrastructure, and large-scale production environments. This role offers an excellent opportunity for engineers looking to grow their technical expertise while contributing to services that are critical to the LexisNexis platform.

What You'll Do

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain software components for the WAM platform.
  • Translate business and technical requirements into scalable, maintainable software solutions.
  • Build and enhance cloud-native microservices using Java and Micronaut.
  • Design and develop RESTful APIs and backend services backed by PostgreSQL.
  • Develop event-driven integrations using Amazon SQS, SNS, and EventBridge.
  • Collaborate with product owners, architects, and fellow engineers throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices.
  • Troubleshoot production issues and improve application reliability, scalability, and performance.
  • Write automated unit and integration tests.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, and retrospectives.
  • Continuously learn new technologies and contribute ideas that improve our engineering practices.

These responsibilities align with the standard Software Engineer II expectations, including developing moderate-complexity software components, resolving technical issues, collaborating with stakeholders, and working within Agile development environments.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 1+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Strong programming skills in Java.
  • Experience building RESTful APIs and backend services.
  • Experience working with PostgreSQL or other relational databases.
  • Understanding of object-oriented design principles and software engineering best practices.
  • Familiarity with Git and modern CI/CD practices.
  • Understanding of Agile software development methodologies.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Passion for learning new technologies and continuously improving engineering practices.

These qualifications are consistent with the Software Engineer II role profile, which emphasizes software development, collaboration, Agile methodologies, testing, and continuous learning.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing microservices using Micronaut.
  • Experience building applications on AWS.
  • Experience with Amazon SQS, SNS, and EventBridge.
  • Experience deploying and operating applications on Kubernetes or OpenShift.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL database design, optimization, and performance tuning.
  • Familiarity with OAuth2, OpenID Connect (OIDC), SAML, or Identity and Access Management (IAM) concepts.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or similar).
  • Experience with observability and monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, or Datadog.

Why Join Us?

  • Build mission-critical identity and access management services that support products across the LexisNexis ecosystem.
  • Work with modern cloud-native technologies and distributed systems at enterprise scale.
  • Collaborate with experienced engineers in a culture that values technical excellence, mentorship, and innovation.
  • Grow your skills while helping shape the future of our enterprise authentication and authorization platform.
