As an Analyst in Webster Bank's Sponsor Finance Group, you will be responsible for underwriting new cash flow LBO & private equity backed transactions as well as portfolio management activities for the General Industries team. This position includes all aspects of the underwriting process such as performing due diligence and preparing internal credit approval documents, as well as portfolio management responsibilities including completion of required portfolio reviews and processing of incremental credit extensions. You will be a meaningful contributor and assume increasing levels of responsibility that encompasses underwriting, portfolio management, and communicating with key stakeholders. Position would be hybrid and based in either Stamford, CT or New York, NY.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include: (i) assisting the deal team in the due diligence process for new cash flow transactions, inclusive of both financial and qualitative due diligence, (ii) preparing pre-screen memos and credit approval documents for presentation to credit committee, (iii) preparing financial models, (iv) assisting in the closing process on new transactions, and (v) management and ongoing monitoring of portfolio accounts. Throughout this process, the Analyst will have the opportunity to interact with multiple stakeholders including senior origination officers, deal underwriters, senior credit officers, capital markets professionals, private equity sponsors, company management, as well as legal counsel and operations personnel.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or equivalent work experience.
  • 1-2 years of experience in leveraged finance at a commercial bank, investment bank or finance company with strong commercial credit experience.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency with financial statement modeling.
  • Experience underwriting middle market cash flow transactions.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with limited supervision.
  • Graduate of a formalized credit training program is preferred but not required.

Business Unit Overview

Webster Bank Sponsor Finance provides senior secured commercial loans to middle-market companies, typically backed by private equity capital. Our loans are used by clients to facilitate acquisitions, fund working capital, finance growth/capital expenditures, and restructurings. This position will focus on general commercial industries, but the Sponsor Finance team also has dedicated specialty lending verticals that cover healthcare, technology & infrastructure, and aerospace & defense. We are headquartered in Boston, MA and have offices in Stamford, CT and New York, NY.

The estimated salary range for this position is $100,000.00 to $115,00.00. Actual salary may vary up or down depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position is eligible for incentive compensation.
