Job description

Summary

Rigger Helper job at US Immediate Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Boston, MA.

Duties
  • At the WG-05 developmental duties, as assigned, to include the following:
    • You will assist journey level riggers to use both traditional and modern rigging techniques to lift, move, and position equipment and materials.
    • You will assist higher level riggers to safely handle, install and remove all materials and components requiring the use of weight handling equipment.
    • You will assist in the manufacture of leather and canvas covers.
    • You will assist in the prefabrication/fabrication of leather and canvas artifacts from the 18th and 19th century era.
    • You will serve as a member of a rigging or lifting team.
  • At the WG-08 developmental duties, as assigned, to include the following:
    • You will use both traditional and modern rigging techniques to lift, move, and position equipment and materials.
    • You will safely handle, install and remove all materials and components requiring the use of weight handling equipment.
    • You will select and assemble weight handling gear used to lift, move and position heavy loads.
    • You will manufacture wire rope and fiber rope products such as nets, ladders, pendants, falls, slings, hammocks, sword matting.
    • You will manufacture leather and canvas covers.
Requirements
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required.
  • You will be required to perform occasional travel.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You will be required to lift heavy weights.
  • You must participate in training evolutions including sailing/underway operations onboard USS Constitution.
  • You must maintain established dress and grooming standards.
  • You must work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • You must be able to work at heights up to 150 feet.
  • You must be able to work in confined spaces.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driverโ€™s license.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
