ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Performs preventive maintenance on equipment
- Mentor student workers as applicable to the tasks at hand
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the scene shop and associated workspaces
- Participate in all load-ins, changeovers, and strikes throughout the contract period
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- BA in Theater or equivalent work experience
- Minimum 4 years experience in theatrical carpentry
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- Read and interpret construction drawings and cut lists
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge and experience with hardware and build techniques
- Proficiency in wood construction and theatrical rigging
SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Troubleshooting and problem solving skills
- Punctuality, dependability, and ability to work independently
- Strong leadership and teamwork skills
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee overhire and student crew in relationship with the Assistant Technical Director
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Indoor environments, some with low light: workshop, control booth, stages, backstage areas, office spaces
- Seated and standing positions
SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS, PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, ETC:
- Occasional nights and weekends required
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds
- Must be comfortable with heights in excess of 24 feet
- Must be able to work in tight, dark spaces
The rate for this position is $26-$28/hour.
