Job description

Duties * You will determine weekly physical progress of ship overhaul and repair by developing and applying weighted values for all work specification items. * You will track and analyze completion status, incorporating job order modifications and contractor progress reports. * You will collect, review, and monitor schedules, manning estimates, plans, drawings, condition reports, and quality deficiency records. * You will develop production schedules using appropriate techniques (e.g., Gantt charts, PERT/CPM). * You will serve as the principal point of contact for ship repair and overhaul issues requiring coordination among NHHC, contractors, Navy oversight offices, and USS Constitution command staff. * You will provides daily oversight, workload prioritization, performance management, mentoring, and training. * You will advise on historically accurate ship restoration and rigging methods, ensuring compliance with preservation standards and naval heritage policies. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Demonstrating experience performing duties and providing analysis related to production control, project management, or a similar role in a shipyard or other heavy industrial environment. 2) Performing supervisory duties with responsibilities for direct oversight, performance management, and mentoring of subordinate staff. 3) Serving as a primary point of contact and coordinating between multiple stakeholders, such as government agencies, contractors, and military commands. 4) Performing duties related to ship overhaul and repair processes, including work specification items and quality assurance. 5) Utilizing scheduling tools and techniques like Gantt charts and PERT/CPM analysis. 6) Performing duties related to historically accurate ship restoration, rigging methods, and compliance with preservation standards. 7) Identifying and resolving issues related to schedules, production, quality, and resources. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Education There is no educational requirement or substitution for this position. Additional information You will serve as a Production Controller in the Maintenance and Repair Department of the Naval History and Heritage Command, Detachment Boston, MA. The Department is responsible for performing maintenance and repair work on USS Constitution, "Old Ironsides", an actively commissioned 18th Century ship, to preserve the ship in its optimum state of safety, sound condition, and appearance. This is a unique opportunity to learn and practice a historical tradecraft. The duty station is Boston, MA. This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. Several vacancies may be filled. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the selectee fails to meet the pre-employment requirements, including failure to report to any of the scheduled appointments.
