What we do at Weir

We are a global leader in mining technology for a sustainable future. We help our customers extract the resources the world needs more efficiently and more sustainably. Our planet's future depends on the transition to renewable energy, and that transition can only happen with the metals and minerals our customers deliver. So, we work side by side with mines across the globe to move less rock, use less energy, use water wisely, and create less waste. Together, we drive the shift to smart, efficient, and more sustainable mining.

Make your impact

You'll play a key role in solving real-world challenges. You'll apply your skills to deliver results that matter whether that's through engineering, planning or customer support. You'll work with purpose, learn every day and help shape a more sustainable future.

What you'll do

Pouring Operations: Responsible for pouring hot molten metal from small ladles into sand molds using a fixed manipulator arm and bar-type handle. Daily tasks include tipping ladles to pour metal, dumping used ladle shells, and preparing new ones. Success means consistent, safe, and accurate pouring to meet production standards.

Ladle Handling: Manage the large ladle of hot molten metal by moving it via overhead crane and tipping it to fill smaller ladles using a manual wheel. Add hot topping to molds using a long-handled scoop. Daily precision and safety are critical for success.

Physical Setup: Perform physically demanding tasks such as rapid, repetitive lifting, pushing/pulling mold carts, and scanning mold tags into the computer. Assist team members as needed to maintain workflow efficiency. Success is demonstrated by maintaining pace and accuracy in a physically challenging environment.

Hot Metal Crane Operation: Operate the hot metal crane after certification, managing heat removal as necessary. Success is measured by safe and efficient crane operation with zero incidents.

Travel Requirements: Minimal to no travel required; role is primarily onsite at the Portland facility.

Safety First: Demonstrate 100% commitment to our zero harm behaviors in support of our drive towards developing a world-class safety culture.

What you'll bring

Must-haves:

Good communication skills to work effectively within the team

Ability to learn about alloys and metal specifications relevant to the role

Physical agility, coordination, and upper body strength to handle demanding tasks

Experience or ability to work safely around extreme heat from molten metal

Nice-to-haves:

Prior experience in foundry or metal pouring operations

Certification or experience operating overhead cranes

Familiarity with scanning and computer data entry in a manufacturing environment

Knowledge of safety protocols in heavy industrial settings
