Purpose of Position
The Director, Consumer Lending, Direct is responsible for organizing and directing the operations of a world class Consumer Lending Department including policies, procedures, compliance, budget, day-to-day operations, and production relative to the origination, underwriting, processing, closing, and servicing of consumer loans. Manages, evaluates, and coaches a team of originators, servicers, and processors. Monitors the rapidly changing legal/regulatory/competitive environment of consumer lending. Proactively manages consumer lending pipeline and processes to ensure timely and accurate loan processing, decisions, and closings.
Essential Duties
The position's essential duties include the following:
  • Develop loan operations production tactics to meet overall organizational and department goals. Effectively manages loan production and quality through the establishment of key performance measures. Manages the consumer loan pipeline for pending applications and ensures quality loan service for all parties. Coordinate loan activities between stateside and overseas branches to ensure uniform application of established procedures.
  • Design, develop, implement, and monitor internal operating policies, procedures and controls that provide acceptable levels of safety to credit union assets. Establish and monitor overall operating standards to ensure sound operating procedures. Monitor loan operation to ensure compliance with established loan policy and guidelines.
  • Administer loan origination system to manage pipeline, improve coordination and lower costs. Manage, administer, and monitor GAP, Credit Life and Disability, and Collateral Protection programs. Compile and report monthly departmental loan and statistical data.
  • Direct and manage the proper servicing of consumer loans including lien perfection and release, credit reporting, insurance follow up, collateral protection, and loan documentation collateral.
  • Direct and manage the activities of consumer lending employees to include ensuring employees understand assigned position duties and responsibilities, delegating tasks as appropriate, developing employee knowledge, skills, and abilities through professional/personal development opportunities, coaching and mentoring, as well as providing ongoing performance management and sustaining employee accountability.
  • Integrate the consumer lending department plans with organizational strategy for profitability and performance. Establish goals, forecast staffing needs, and determine infrastructure requirements. Perform portfolio and department profitability management through planning, staff productivity, and expense control. Effectively manages budget and resource allocation issues including budget development, budget management/administration, budget forecasting, variance analysis and budget reporting. Builds effective inter-departmental coordination and support.
  • Responsible for building an effective, healthy team environment within the consumer lending and supporting a productive team environment throughout the credit union. Effectively documents and resolves performance issues.
  • Understand regulatory compliance including all applicable consumer and real estate lending laws. Effectively develop, implement, and update complaint policy and procedures. Cooperate with internal and external compliance audits.
  • Remain cognizant of and adheres to Andrews Federal policies and procedures, and regulations pertaining to the Bank Secrecy Act.

Required KSAs
  • BA/BS degree in Business Administration or related field with 8+ years of experience of direct consumer lending experience in a financial services organization required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of direct management experience.
  • Must have working knowledge in underwriting, processing, closing, and servicing consumer loans.
  • Must have working knowledge of applicable laws and regulations related to lending including, but not limited to, REG B , ECOA, FCRA, and Reg Z.
  • Must possess strong technical, quantitative reasoning, problem solving, organization, decision-making, and administrative skills.
  • Must exhibit exceptional staff and member relation skills.
  • Prior sales experience preferred.
  • Experience working in complex environments with a high degree of organizational effectiveness.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office required.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and exceptional organizational skills required.

  • Ability to sit at a desk and computer for extended periods.

Salary
$104,654.60 - $130,818.25
