Description

The Girl Scout mission is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. Behind every Girl Scout and volunteer is a team of local staff ready to help them earn that next badge, embark on a camping adventure, or organize an impactful service project. We are Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey (GSNNJ) serving girls in grades K-12 in Bergen, Morris, Passaic, Sussex and northern Warren counties. We bring the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to 19,000 girls and 10,200 adult members. We are currently looking for several per diem Program Facilitators for our Lego Robotics Club.

The FIRST LEGO League Program Facilitator is responsible for planning, leading, and inspiring girls to explore STEM concepts through hands-on LEGO robotics activities. This role focuses on creating a fun, safe, and engaging environment where girls can learn teamwork, problem-solving, and creativity while gaining confidence in science and technology. This includes working with a group of up to 24 girls in a safe and healthy environment at our Riverdale Service Center as well as other locations in New Jersey where competitions may be held.


The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

Facilitate LEGO robotics sessions, guiding Girl Scouts through building, programming, and testing projects using LEGO robotics kits (e.g., LEGO Education Spike Prime, Mindstorms, or similar).

Foster an inclusive, supportive, and girl-led environment where participants feel encouraged to experiment, ask questions, and collaborate.

Adapt activities to accommodate varying ages, skill levels, and learning styles.

Promote STEM learning by connecting robotics concepts to real-world applications and Girl Scout leadership outcomes.

Ensure all program equipment and materials are used responsibly, inventoried, and maintained in good condition.

Model and uphold Girl Scout values, including respect, teamwork, and courage.

Follow all health, safety, and risk management guidelines.

Assist with setup and cleanup of program space before and after sessions.

Communicate effectively with council staff and supervisors about program progress and needs.

Requirements

Must be 18+ years of age

Must be punctual and attentive

Ability to attend assigned sessions, most of which occur weekends for approximately 4 hours between 3:00PM-7:00PM

Availability to attend weekend events and competitions

Must be able to communicate well with other staff and community partners.

Membership in GSUSA is required upon employment

Ability to work a flexible schedule

Ability to travel throughout North New Jersey to attend competitions and practices.
