Law Librarian
Portland, Maine
Drummond Woodsum is seeking a Law Librarian to join our firm. This position is responsible for managing the firm's legal research resources, maintaining library collections and subscriptions, providing research assistance, and supporting knowledge management initiatives that enhance the efficiency of our legal teams. The ideal candidate will possess strong research skills, excellent attention to detail, and a commitment to providing exceptional service in a fast-paced professional environment.
Responsibilities:
  • Conduct legal, business, legislative, regulatory, and factual research in support of attorneys
  • Manage and maintain the firm's print and electronic library resources
  • Provide training and guidance to attorneys, paralegals, and staff on legal research techniques and available resources
  • Respond promptly to research requests and ensure timely delivery of accurate information
  • Monitor and support the firm's Continuing Legal Education (CLE) program, including researching CLE options, compliance tracking, confirming program accreditation, recordkeeping, and reminders for attorney reporting requirements
  • Stay current on developments in legal research technology, artificial intelligence tools
  • Coordinate with practice groups and firm leadership to evaluate resource needs, identify collection gaps, and support strategic knowledge management initiatives
  • Coordinate library outreach initiatives and library committee activities across the firm

Qualifications:
  • Education requirements include MLIS + library experience preferred or a Bachelor degree with library experience
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a library environment; law firm experience preferred
  • Strong legal research, analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a fast-paced professional environment
  • Ability to locate, evaluate, and deliver research with minimal supervision
  • Proficiency with different library management systems, cataloging standards, and legal research databases
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to produce accurate, high-quality work, and provide exceptional service to attorneys and staff
