Job description

Lawyers on Demand, a Consilio company is actively recruiting for a temporary, defense-side Legal Secretary for an onsite assignment for a law firm client in the Los Angeles, CA area.

This role could turn into a temp-to-hire opportunity for the right candidate.

Position Overview

The Legal Secretary will 4 support attorneys working on a variety of defense litigation matters, including employment-related claims, tort litigation, and insurance coverage disputes. The ideal candidate will bring strong litigation support experience, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced legal environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support defense litigation attorneys with day-to-day administrative and case-related tasks.
  • Draft, format, proofread, and revise legal documents, correspondence, pleadings, and filings.
  • Maintain and organize case files, discovery materials, pleadings, and other litigation documents.
  • Prepare documents for filing in state and federal courts while ensuring compliance with applicable court rules and procedures.
  • Monitor deadlines, maintain calendars, schedule meetings, and coordinate court dates, depositions, and other litigation events.
  • Communicate professionally with attorneys, clients, courts, opposing counsel, vendors, and internal team members.
  • Assist with case management tasks using Microsoft Office 365 and other legal technology platforms.
  • Provide support during trial preparation, including organizing exhibits, binders, filings, and related materials.
  • Help with matter closing procedures and post-case administrative follow-up.
  • Handle general legal administrative duties, including document management, correspondence, calendaring, and filing.

Qualifications

  • 2 - 4 years of experience as a Legal Secretary supporting defense litigation matters.
  • Background supporting employment litigation, tort claims, insurance coverage, or similar civil defense matters preferred.
  • Strong understanding of litigation procedures, court rules, e-filing requirements, and legal document formatting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and related tools.
  • Experience with Image and Litify is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments, deadlines, and attorney preferences with accuracy and professionalism.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, time management skills, and ability to work independently.
  • Candidates located near California offices are preferred, especially those open to onsite or hybrid work arrangements.

Schedule

  • Full-time schedule with flexible start times between 8:00 AM and 9:30 AM.
  • Standard 8-hour workday required.
  • Firm-provided equipment, including a laptop provided.

Work Arrangement

  • Onsite availability; Hybrid and remote arrangements may be considered for qualified candidates located near California offices. Hybrid/Remote options NOT guaranteed.
  • Flexible daily scheduling is available within standard business hour expectations.
