Job description

Description The Hennepin County Attorney's Office is seeking a Legal Secretary with excellent transcription, organizational, typing, and communication skills to join its Transcription Unit. The Transcription Unit plays a vital role by efficiently transcribing statements, 911 calls, jail calls, audio from body cameras, squad videos, and recorded media. If you have experience as a Legal Secretary and want to expand your knowledge with an industry leader, this role is for you.

Location and hours: This position is remote. Remote workers may be required to come on-site 0 to 12 days a year for work meetings, trainings, or for any other reasons that their supervisor may deem necessary (may include additional days for onboarding and new employee training). Supervisors will provide as much advance notice as practicable.

Work hours will be Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. New Employee Orientation (NEO) for all new benefit-earning employees is in-person in downtown Minneapolis

In this position, you will: Transcribe and proofread with speed and accuracy question/answer statements made by defendants, victims and/or witnesses, 911 calls, jail calls, audio from body cameras, squad videos, and recorded media. Follow office and court rules and procedures.

Input, retrieve, modify, and/or delete stored information in computerized systems; open, organize, and close files; copy, fax, scan, email, e-file, and distribute documents. Operate and maintain PC, software, internal databases, printers, fax, and copy machines. Communicate in person, by phone, and via email/instant message with office staff clearly and professionally.

Need to have: One of the following: Two or more years of general office work experience, including one year or more of secretarial experience in a legal environment. Completion of an approved business school/technical college program as a legal secretary, legal administrative assistant, and/or paralegal. Nice to have: Experience: Transcribing question/answer statements made by defendants, victims, and/or witnesses 911 calls, jail calls, audio from body cameras, squad videos, and recorded media.

Working with Microsoft Suite including Outlook and/or a similar email/calendar program. Using, looking up, and maintaining information in electronic databases. In a public law office or court setting.

Working with client records that contain highly confidential information that have to be handled and stored according to specified security procedures. Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to: Type 60 or more words per minute.

Quickly learn complex information/concepts and apply them effectively when dealing with ambiguous assignments. Interact with the general public and staff members with tact and discretion. Identify problems and make decisions based on confidential issues.
