Job description

The Michigan office of Kaufman Dolowich is a full-service National Law firm with more than 250 attorneys across 16 offices and over 25 practice areas. We are actively seeking a Legal Assistant/Paralegal with 5 years of experience to work directly with our attorneys to prepare for upcoming cases and get involved in fact-finding projects.
Our office is comprised of highly skilled and motivated individuals, who are seeking a dynamic self-starter to join our growing team!
Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with attorneys to prepare for trials, hearings, and meetings
  • Utilizes existing files and a variety of other research resources to develop information for pending cases
  • Drafts discovery demands and responses, including, but not limited to, Requests for Production, Interrogatories, Notices for Discovery and Inspection and Requests for Admissions
  • Processes deposition transcripts
  • Prepares trial and arbitration hearing binders
  • Assists with drafting documents such as: Motion to Strike, Motion for Continuances, Proposed Orders, Requests for Judicial Notice, Evidentiary Objections, etc
  • Assists with e-filing in State, Federal and Appellate Courts and checks the Court's local rules
  • Prepares timelines and demonstrative exhibits
  • Drafts routine legal correspondence
  • Prepares first set of exhibits for motions, discovery responses, etc
  • Reviews outgoing document production, including redacting and Bates stamping
  • Creates Preservation of Evidence Letter and Document Request Letters
  • Performs legal research through WestLaw
  • Assisting with office administration tasks
  • Reviews, summarize and analyze medical records to assist with defense of action
  • Other duties, as needed, to support the firm and office operations

Qualifications:
  • Previous law firm experience (5+ years)
  • Litigation experience
  • Exceptional organization skills
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize workload
  • Team oriented
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs
  • Knowledge of legal terminology and principles
  • Ability to analyze legal documents and ensure accuracy
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion with limited guidance
