Summary
We are seeking a Legal Assistant to join our Social Security team. As a Legal Assistant you must be highly organized and able to work on a varied caseload, take pride in what you do, and assist the attorney in preparing documents and correspondence as needed.
Responsibilities
  • Perform administrative duties, such as scheduling calendar hearings and deadlines, organizing case files, and managing logistics
  • Maintain pleadings and discovery indexes
  • Organize exhibits, documents, evidence, briefs, and appendices
  • Implement and improve upon administrative processes for more efficient workflow
  • Collect, examine, and organize evidence and other legal documents for attorney review and case preparation
  • Draft and proofread correspondence and legal documents, such as pleadings and contracts
  • Research regulations, laws, and legal articles to assist with the preparation of reports, case files, and legal advice
  • Manage client billing by preparing, finalizing, and sending out bills, as well as resolving billing issues in cooperation with the billing attorney
  • Communicate with clients and witnesses to schedule meetings, interviews, and hearings
  • Manage, organize, and maintain documents in paper or electronic filing systems
  • Provide general administrative assistance, such as maintaining the attorney's calendar and making travel arrangements

Qualification
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Associate's Degree in Paralegal Studies, Bachelor's Degree, or a Paralegal Certificate (preferred)
  • Prior experience as a case manager in a Veteran Affairs department (preferred)
  • At least 1 year of working legal, medical, or social services experience (preferred)
  • Highly organized with the ability to multitask, prioritize, handle a fast-paced environment, and manage workload with a great attitude and minimal supervision
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including good presentation skill
  • This role is on-site, which gives you the chance to be fully immersed in the work and gain direct experience alongside the team. We've found that being in the office helps new team members get up to speed quickly and feel more connected.
