Job description

McCarter & English, LLP is seeking a Litigation Legal Assistant for its Newark, NJ office. The salary range for this position is $70,000-$90,000 annually, depending on experience. If you have relevant experience, we would like you to consider joining our team. Under general supervision, performs responsible and confidential secretarial work and routine administrative duties for attorneys and performs related duties as required.
• Must be a team player, highly organized, pro-active and able to multi-task in an extremely fast paced environment.
• Transcribe real time dictation, correspondence, letters, and confidential memorandum. BigHand a plus for this position.
• Reads and sorts through numerous incoming emails and makes sure emails are timely delivered or filed in iManage; ensures outgoing mail is processed
• Types a variety of legal documents from rough and oral drafts; requires strong proofreading skills.
• Handles Court E-Filings; able to retrieve and distribute court filings from docket to appropriate attorneys on case.
• Able to handle high level client contact, handle calls for senior partner; able to direct message to the appropriate person in a timely manner
• Prepares, maintains and confirms daily work calendars and schedule meetings, depositions
• Assists with travel arrangements, internal correspondence, reimbursements for attorneys, paralegals
• Able to meet weekly/monthly time entry deadlines; client billing deadlines; Process vendor invoices to meet client billing deadlines
• Maintain attorneys’ legal confidential and administrative files
Related Duties
• Assist other Attorneys and Legal Assistants within the office
• Proactively manage contacts in Outlook and Interaction
Minimum Qualifications
Training and Experience
• 10-15 years of litigation legal assistant experience.
• Must type a minimum of 70 words per minutes.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skill
• Comprehensive knowledge of modern legal office practices and procedures
• Considerable knowledge of legal documents preparation, legal terminology and court procedures
• Comprehensive knowledge of MS Word, MS Outlook, Excel, redline comparisons, BigHand (digital dictation)
• Comprehensive knowledge of iManage, E-mail/File Storage Organization Skills
• Comprehensive knowledge of E-filing
• Considerable knowledge of effective proofreading
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
