Legal Consultant information
What is a legal consultant?
Legal consultants are attorneys hired by law firms to assist with a particular case or legal matter. They are often experts in a specific field of law, such as real estate, business, or health care. This qualifies them to be a consultant for firms that may not have a lot of experience in a particular kind of law. Legal consultants are responsible for advising clients on complex legal issues, clarifying the case and making suggestions for moving forward. Legal consultants generally only provide counsel privately, and not in the courtroom.

What is the difference between Legal Consultant vs Legal Advisor?
| Aspect | Legal Consultant | Legal Advisor |
|---|---|---|
| Credentials | Law degree, bar admission, relevant certifications | Law degree, bar admission, relevant certifications |
| Work Environment | Consulting firms, corporate legal departments, freelance | Corporate legal teams, law firms, government agencies |
| Employer & Industry | Businesses, consulting firms, legal service providers | Corporations, law firms, government bodies |
| Common Search/Comparison | Yes | Yes |
Legal Consultants and Legal Advisors both require legal degrees and certifications, often work within corporate or consulting environments, and are employed across various industries. While Legal Consultants typically provide specialized advice on projects or compliance, Legal Advisors often serve as ongoing legal counsel for organizations. The roles overlap but differ mainly in scope and focus, making them common comparison points for job seekers and employers alike.
