Job description

POSITION OVERVIEW: The Legal Assistant supports CMG Mortgage, Inc.’s in-house Legal team by providing administrative, operational, and legal support across litigation, regulatory, and corporate matters. This role works closely with Corporate Counsel, Senior Paralegal, and Junior Paralegal team members to ensure the timely handling of legal requests, documentation, and compliance-related activities. The Legal Assistant is responsible for managing day-to-day legal support tasks such as pulling loan files for subpoena responses, tracking proposed legislation, routing servicing-related legal notices, and maintaining accurate records and trackers. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced, highly regulated financial services environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES, include the following responsibilities, but not limited to:

  • Provide administrative and operational support to the in-house Legal team, including Corporate Counsel, Senior Paralegal, and Junior Paralegal.
  • Consistently handle a variety of assignments related to litigation support, regulatory tracking, and corporate legal operations.
  • Pull, organize, and maintain loan files and documentation in response to subpoenas, litigation requests, and discovery needs.
  • Track proposed legislation impacting the financial services industry, specifically mortgage origination and servicing, and assist with research and documentation as needed.
  • Ensure servicing-related legal notices, subpoenas, and other legal documents are routed to the appropriate internal teams in a timely manner.
  • Assist with the intake, logging, and tracking of subpoenas, litigation matters, and legal correspondence.
  • Maintain and update legal trackers, logs, and records to support compliance and reporting requirements.
  • Support document preparation using established legal team templates and forms.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders, including Servicing and Operations teams, to ensure accurate and timely responses to legal requests.
  • Assist with general administrative tasks such as scheduling meetings, organizing files, and maintaining legal department records.
  • Collaborate with members of the Legal team on special projects and initiatives, as assigned.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Prior experience in a legal, compliance, administrative, or financial services environment preferred.
  • Exposure to litigation support, subpoenas, regulatory matters, or mortgage servicing.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in standard office technology, systems, and document management tools.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with attorneys, paralegals, and internal stakeholders.
  • A notary is a plus and if not notarized we’ll pay to have them take their test.

PHYSICAL and ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

This role operates in an ADA compliant office environment, utilizing typical office equipment and tasks including computer work. The position may involve partial stationary positions and moving throughout the day. Flexibility to work overtime to meet project deadlines is required.

Base Compensation Information - The hourly rate for this onsite position ranges between $23.00 and $25.00 per hour. Factors that may affect compensation include previous experience as legal admin support and some mortgage knowledge.
