Legal Assistant Position Summary:
This Legal Assistant position is responsible for ensuring smooth processing and effective case management in the Litigations-Evictions department by providing legal clerical and processing support. They must communicate cross-functionally with clients, courts, and attorneys in a timely and professional manner. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, has strong organizational skills, and a passion for delivering exceptional client service.
Legal Assistant Job Responsibilities:
  • Draft and prepare legal documents for court filing, including pleadings, motions, and correspondence, with a focus on accuracy and compliance.
  • Effectively manage electronic filing of legal documents through state and federal court systems, ensuring timely and error-free submissions in accordance with court requirements.
  • Service as a key point of contact for clients, courts, opposing counsel, and vendors; responding promptly to inquiries via email, phone, and voicemail.
  • Provide clear, accurate updates on case status and escalate complex matters as needed to achieve satisfactory outcomes for clients.
  • Serve as a liaison for process servers to coordinate services, monitor performance, and identify trends to ensure high-quality service delivery.
  • Maintain and update case files, track deadlines, and ensure the timely progression of cases through the legal process, including eviction and related proceedings.
  • Perform data entry, maintain case management systems, and ensure all documentation adheres to internal standard operating procedures and external regulatory requirements.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor(s).

Required Qualifications and Skills:
  • High school diploma required; Associate's degree or higher preferred.
  • 1-3 years of legal assistant or paralegal experience required; 4+ years preferred.
  • Prior experience in default servicing, creditors' rights, or real estate law (plaintiff representation) preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of Michigan court procedures and filing requirements.
