What is a learning technology internship?

A Learning Technology Internship is a temporary position, typically for students or recent graduates, that provides hands-on experience working with educational technologies in schools, universities, or corporate training environments. Interns may assist with implementing learning management systems, supporting online course development, and troubleshooting technical issues for educators and learners. This role helps interns gain practical skills in instructional technology, digital content creation, and technology integration within educational settings.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a learning technology intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Learning Technology Intern, you need a foundational understanding of instructional design, educational technology, and strong computer literacy, often supported by coursework or a degree in education or a related field. Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS), digital content creation tools, and platforms such as Canvas or Moodle is typically required. Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities help interns collaborate effectively and adapt to evolving project needs. These skills ensure efficient support of educational initiatives, successful integration of technology in learning environments, and valuable contributions to instructional teams.

What types of projects and responsibilities can I expect during a learning technology internship?

During a Learning Technology Internship, you can expect to work on projects such as developing digital learning resources, assisting with the implementation of Learning Management Systems (LMS), and supporting educators with technology integration. Interns often collaborate with instructional designers, IT specialists, and faculty to enhance online learning experiences. You may also be involved in troubleshooting technical issues, creating training materials, and gathering user feedback to help improve educational tools. This hands-on exposure provides valuable experience in both educational technology and cross-functional teamwork.
