University of St. Thomas Adjunct FacultyNetwork TechnologyThe University of St. Thomas (UST), a private Catholic University committed to the liberal arts and the religious and intellectual tradition of Catholic higher education, with its main campus near the vibrant Houston central business district, Texas Medical Center, and museum district, is inviting applications for the position of Adjunct Faculty Network Technology, Associates of Applied Sciences Program. The position will report to the Dean of the Associates Program.General Description:The position requires a faculty member with experience in Computer Information Technology and /or Network Security. The teaching faculty will provide learning activities and support the course objectives that aim to recognize the type of network designs appropriate for OSI (open system interconnection) models, security, and networking protocols. Adjunct faculty are hired in a part-time capacity on a semester-by-semester basis, contingent upon the needs of the online program.Responsibilities:Plan, develop, and teach courses within the curriculum in a manner that facilitates student learningUtilizes a course syllabus for each course, following established institutional guidelinesMeets with and advises students either before or after class or by appointment, electronic communication, or other appropriate methodsTeaching assignment may include some evening and/or weekend hoursEvaluates students to measure their progress in achieving course objectives and informs students in a timely manner of their progressMaintains professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the communityAttends meetings, trainings, and orientations as required Knowledge, skills, and abilities: Mastery of course content Effective classroom technique and skillsDemonstrated leadership skills and style that emphasizes collaboration, teamwork, and facilitation Excellent oral and written communication skills Positive interpersonal skills with a service orientationCommitment to diversity with the ability to appreciate alternative viewpointsAbility to work effectively with a wide variety of people Demonstrates interest in interdisciplinary teaching, service learning, learning technologies, course development, and adult learning methodologies including collaborative learning, learning communities and distance learning Ability to use effective strategies to engage students in their learningDemonstrated intermediate proficiency level working with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software Education and Experience Requirements:Masters degree in computer science, computer information systems, computer information technology, computer engineering, computer-based information systems or business/computer related field (e.g., computer management, decision engineering, or electrical engineering) required. Minimum of 18 hours of graduate work in the technology field.Minimum of 3 years non-teaching work experience in the related field or industry certification(s). Strong consideration will be given to candidates with an equivalent combination of work and teaching experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the position.
