Position Summary: 

Weare seeking aStudent Intern in ASL Interpretationto support ourLanguage Servicesteam. This internshipprovidesa unique opportunity to apply classroom learning in a professional setting, gain exposure to mental health services, and develop interpreting skills in a trauma-informedandperson-centered environment. 

This role is designed for students currently enrolled in an ASL/English Interpreter Training Program who are seeking practicum or internship experience. 

Team Specific Information: At WellPower, we believe everyone deserves care in the language they prefer to speak or sign. Our Language Services team includes full-time staff who are professionally trained and nationally certified in Spanish or ASL. We also subcontract with external providers to cover after-hours and other languages. 

Compensation & Benefits: 

This is a NON-PAID student intern opportunity 

Duties & Functions: 

  • ASL/English Interpretation: Provide ASL/English interpretation while working with another intern and/or staff interpreters for a variety of encounters that include, but are not limited to, classes and workshops about health and wellness, art, employment and technology as well as events like BINGO and yoga. 
  • Learning & Development:Shadow professional interpreters, receive mentorship, andparticipateinsupervision andfeedback sessions to strengthen interpreting skills. 
  • Collaboration:Work alongside teams in the Impact & Engagement department to foster a welcoming andsupportiveenvironment. 
  • Professional Standards:Learn and adhere to the Code of Professional Conduct for interpreters,maintainingconfidentiality and cultural sensitivity. 
  • Participate in team/department meetings, in-servicetraining, and supervisory sessions asrequired. 
  • Maintain a trauma informed environment of wellbeing. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Requirements & Qualifications: 

  • Currently enrolled in an ASL/English Interpreter Training Program (associate or bachelor's level). 
  • Advancedproficiencyin ASL with coursework in interpretation completed or in progress. 
  • Prior experience in community service, non-profit or healthcare settings is a plus but notrequired.
