Job Overview

The Senior Learning & Development Consultant (Instructional Designer) is responsible for designing, developing, and delivering enterprise-wide learning strategies and programs that enhance organizational capability, leadership effectiveness, and employee performance. The incumbent partners with leaders and cross-functional teams to assess learning needs, design engaging and effective learning solutions, and implement scalable programs aligned with organizational priorities.

A key focus of this role is the end-to-end design and implementation of a comprehensive leadership development program, including curriculum development, instructional design, facilitation, and evaluation.

Role

  • Leads the end-to-end design, development, and implementation of a structured leadership development program (e.g., leadership blueprint), including curriculum, learning pathways, and supporting tools.
  • In partnership with the Sr. Organizational Development consultant, plays a key role in designing FirstOntario's enterprise-wide onboarding blueprint.
  • In partnership with the Director, OD - this position will play a key role in finding, sourcing, and implementing our new LMS.
  • Applies instructional design methodologies (e.g., ADDIE or similar) to create engaging, learner-centric experiences across multiple modalities (in-person, virtual, eLearning, blended learning).
  • Conducts learning needs analyses, skills assessments, and stakeholder consultations to identify gaps and define learning solutions.
  • Designs and develops high-quality learning materials, including facilitator guides, participant workbooks, eLearning modules, job aids, and assessments.
  • In partnership with the SR. Organizational Development Consultant, facilitates leadership development sessions, workshops, and training programs.
  • Partners with leaders and HR teams to integrate learning programs into broader talent initiatives (e.g., performance management, succession planning, onboarding).
  • In partnership with the Director, OD, helps to build an infrastructure for work scoping within the L&D team.
  • Acts as a true learning consultant, asking the right questions to discern need. Scopes work and finds collaborative solutions to complex learning needs.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of learning programs using defined metrics (e.g., participation, engagement, knowledge transfer, behavior change, business impact) and continuously improves offerings.
  • Supports the development and maintenance of competency frameworks, leadership models, and career development pathways in partnership with the SR. Organizational Development Consultant.
  • Provides coaching and advisory support to leaders with regards to training and learning principles.

Required Skills

  • Post-secondary education or equivalent in Human Resources, Adult Education, Organizational Development, Instructional Design, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
  • Relevant certification in Learning and Development, Instructional Design, or Adult Learning is required.
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in Learning & Development, with a strong focus on instructional design and leadership development.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and implementing leadership development programs at scale.
  • Strong expertise in instructional design principles, adult learning theory, and curriculum development.
  • Experience developing blended learning solutions, including digital learning and eLearning authoring tools.
  • Strong facilitation, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience evaluating learning effectiveness and using data to inform continuous improvement.
  • Proven ability to influence and partner with leaders at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Experience working in complex, multi-site or matrixed environments is an asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and learning technologies (e.g., LMS, authoring tools) is required.

This role is hybrid (flexible) in Stoney Creek, ON. Details will be discussed during interview.

Salary Range: $81,110 to $111,527 annually.

Compensation for this role reflects a combination of skills, experience, and internal equity. Those whose experience more closely aligns the role's requirements may be placed higher within the salary range.
